The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102 Section 1a) (effective 1 January 2020). ## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES** ## **Objectives and aims** The objectives of the CIO are to promote and protect the physical and mental health of young people suffering from spinal cord injuries in the London and South of England by providing or assisting in the provision of equipment, facilities and services not normally provided by the statutory authorities. ## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE** After a successful first year in 2019, 2020 has been a tough year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This heavily affected the ability to hold fundraising events, and limited the funds that were brought in. In total the charity raised £3,634 and was still able to support existing and new beneficiaries. The charity is hoping to be able to grow again during 2021 as the restrictions are lifted. 2020 was a challenging year for fundraising for most charities due to the COVID-19 pandemic not only causing many social restrictions, but also placing many people into financial hardship. As such, the charity made the decision to pause a dedicated focus on fundraising until the world returned to some level of normality. This decision was possible due to the strong start to fundraising in the first year of operation as well as setting the charity up in a lean and efficient way with very minimal regular overheads. That being said, the charity made a good start to the fundraising year pre-pandemic with donations from the New Years Eve football event in Horsley as well as Mercer Woking holding a Christmas raffle. The charity also had someone running the Surrey Half marathon which raised over £1,500. The charity gained a place for Tom Brooks to run the 2020 London Marathon that saw some early fundraising during this period, but was then paused in line with the rescheduling decision from the organisers. Tom’s place has been carried forward to the next year. During the COVID-19 pandemic Scinergise has continued to keep in touch with and support the existing beneficiary network. Our trustee, Oliver Carpenter, has supported in developing exercise videos to motivate the beneficiaries during COVID-19. In 2020, Scinergise has continued to build a strong relationship with NeuroKinex, who have supported in identifying new beneficiaries that meet the charities aims. This has allowed the charity to increase its number of beneficiaries and see the positive results that activity-based rehab can bring to children with spinal chord injuries. This relationship will continue into 2021 as the charity looks to expand it’s reach. ## **Scinergise Trustees Report continued… For the period ended 31st December 2020** Looking ahead to 2021, the charity hopes to find a balance of normality and increase it’s fundraising activities. This will enable support to existing and new beneficiaries, and expand the way in which the charity can operate. ## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT** ## **Governing document** The charity is controlled by its governing document, a charitable constitution, and constitutes an unincorporated charity. Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Charity are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe: - 1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or - 2 the accounts do not accord with those records; or - 3 the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or - 4 the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities [applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102 Section 1a and the Charity SORP)]. The financial statements were approved by the Board of Trustees on 31st October 2020 and were signed on its behalf by: Oliver Carpenter 1. **ACCOUNTING POLICIES** ## **Scinergise Notes to the Financial Statements For the year ended 31st December 2020** ## **Basis of preparing the financial statements** The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. ## **Income** All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. ## **Expenditure** Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. ## **Allocation and apportionment of costs** In accordance with the charity SORP, Scinergise allocates costs incurred directly from undertaking activities that contribute towards our charitable objectives to charitable activity expenditure. The support costs of the charity are allocated to each charitable activity based on the amount of time spent on each activity. ## **Taxation** Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
