THE BEGINNING

Sakubva Helper UK Charity was the brainchild of retired Educationists from Chelmsford and London back in August 2014 over a Reunion lunch. This was in response to a request from Rebuild Sakubva Trust, an initiative conceived and implemented by the residents of Sakubva Township in the City of Mutare in Zimbabwe. In spite of the economic challenges facing the nation of Zimbabwe, the desire to educate and prepare its children for the future has never diminished. We wanted to HELP them HELP themselves.

THE ACTIVITIES

In 2021 we saw two of our Containers finally arrive in Zimbabwe. One of them had belated 2020 Christmas presents for the children. Each Sakubva Helper UK Charity Rucksack had an Exercise Books, Pens and Pencils, Solar Battery Calculator, Erasers, and a Toy plus a personalised Xmas Card. Some of these children had never received a Xmas Card or presents. Thanks to all the parents and children in the UK who helped fill up the Xmas Goodies Rucksacks.

Thanks to the parents and children in the UK that helped us fill up the Xmas Goodies Rucksacks.

In addition to the Xmas Goodies Rucksacks there were various other donations that were Educational and Recreational Resources.

Lastly the Sakubva Helper UK Charity raised funds to enable us to donate sacks of Maize, which is the staple food in Zimbabwe, to the parents and children of Diligence Academy.

BEYOND 2021

Because of the Covid19 Pandemic we were asked by our beneficiaries and Hospitals in Zimbabwe if Sakubva Helper UK Charity would help

with PPE Equipment. And so towards the end of 2021 we started to collect PPE Equipment, Gowns, and Masks. Various institutions and individuals in the UK gave us these much needed items.

We’re working on shipping these items next year.

We would very much like to raise awareness of what we are doing to help and be able to raise enough funds to help us provide this. Seeing the pleasure it has brought to many folks in Zimbabwe it has given us the strength and will to try harder next year. We are

continuing to communicate with relevant Schools and Educational Institutions.

It is our main desire to make the children here realise how fortunate they are and how they can be part of helping their disadvantaged and less fortunate counterparts in Zimbabwe. They will also benefit from learning about other Cultures, Music, Sports, and way of life of their counterparts.

We hope we can play a part in making the children communicate and help each other and while they are doing that be able to understand one another just that little more.

May I take this opportunity to thank Committee Members Sarah Nyandoro and Cheri Class MBE for organising the Zoom meetings throughout the Covid19 Pandemic. Welcome to our new Committee Members Ancilla Mafara Uzande, Margaret Gumise and George Shire whose experience and enthusiasm has helped the Charity to progress.

Lastly my sincere thanks to Committee Member Robert Mafigo who been with us right from the beginning doing all the ground work and behind the scenes work without which Sakubva Helper UK Charity would not have been possible.
