Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 We are a unique, established and
developing local rural charity working
differently with people living with
dementia and their families in the five
rural parishes of Wembury, Brixton,
Yealmpton, Newton Ferrers and Noss
Mayo and Holbeton in the South Hams.
In brief we work differently because we
recognise how vitally important it is that
people living with dementia and their
families continue to be valued, visible
and active in their community, instead
of being separated off into groups
available only to people with dementia.
We take a different approach, a
community wide approach. This
involves changing the way all of us
think about dementia.
Our strap line isWe can’t change the
person living with dementia, but we can
change the experience they have in their
community.
We work with our local shops,
businesses, and organisations, offering
information and raise awareness to
promote a better understanding of what
it means to live with dementia. In this
way our community opens up
opportunities for people living with
dementia and other people living with
hidden disabilities. In this way people
living with dementia and their families
find it possible to make new friends and
still have fun alongside members of
their community in inclusive activities
where everyone feels valued and an
important part of the groups. We know
from feedback that people living with
dementia feel that they have been
welcomed and look forward to the next
meeting … and equally importantly
carers feel supported.

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)
Para 1.47 The charity is not linked to any national
funding streams or to any other national
dementia charity we rely solely on
donations and grant funding.
As well as approaching national sources
of funding (e.g. The National Lottery) we
also seek contributions from our five
parish councils, district and county
councillors, together with initiatives and
efforts from Trustees, supporters and
Committee members
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 Principle risk is the failure to secure
grant funding or raise sufficient funds
through fund raising events. The health
of the charity’s finances is reviewed by
the Trustees through the interrogation
of the monthly treasurer’s report.

Another risk also in the age and health of Trustees and key post holders. To this end succession planning together with the robust recruitment of active Committee members is at the forefront of our operations. Other
