6. Chairman’s Report

Last year, our priority was to raise funds and get the charity on to a stable financial footing so we could start to help as many kittens and cats as possible. This year, no sooner than we had got started, Covid happened and the country went into lockdown! Some of the cat rescue charities, even the bigger ones, stopped helping cats and kittens but we did our best to keep going whilst keeping within the rules and regulations.

It was difficult; volunteers were not allowed on site, fundraising in the form of pub quizzes and artisan markets died and homing became virtual following new covid-secure procedures agree with DEFRA. Thank goodness for the internet and smart ‘phones which both allowed adopters to view potential companions remotely as well as giving us the opportunity to complete home-visits whilst sat miles away.

We adapted; fundraising moved online as did a lot of our routine paperwork and contents of our adoption information packs. Committee meetings were replaced, on the whole, taking advantage of instant messaging and email.

My sincere thanks go to all the Trustees for their continued hard work and dedication behind the scenes in what has been the most unusual year.

Let’s hope we can continue to build the charity and the work it does in the coming year when hopefully Covid will be less of an impediment.
