BURTON HOSPITAL LEAGUE OF FRIENDS/PHOENIX RADIO
Treasurer’s Report for the Year Ending 31[st] October 2022
This was the year when normality started to creep in, masks still being in evidence at the hospital but a better footfall of patients and staff helping to fill the coffers. We even managed to hold raffles in the shop.
We were still being asked to purchase extras for the hospital and as Christmas approached paid towards staff ward and department nibbles. Medical photography were donated a specialist camera and chair at a total of £3461.31, various chairs for the children’s ward totalled £4148.70.
A grand total of £13661.51
I would like to thank all our volunteers and regular supporters who have made this possible, those volunteers able to work during the short times we were open and the supporters who continued to donate and spend. Thanks also must go to our auditor Karen King who performed the audit whilst working from mainly from home, she has also offered her continued support.
THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN
Sheila Jackson

Dear Sheila
Independent Examiners Report: League of Friends and Phoenix Hospital Radio
I have reviewed the accounts and records of the Charity and am pleased to be able to offer an unqualified report (as attached).
I would like to make the following comments but these do not prevent me from issuing my opinion.
1. Documentation of Payments Made / Monies Received
Please continue to ensure that all payments and receipts are evidenced in order to meet any inspection from either The Charity Commission or HMRC.
2. Independent Examiner
Once again I would be happy, if required, to review the accounts in the future and would like any nominal fee to be retained by the League to contribute to the good work carried out.
3. Disclosure of Information
This letter is written for the information of the trustees only. The trustees need to give due consideration to confidentiality and data protection before any of the contents are released elsewhere.
Yours sincerely
Karen King FCCA
Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Burton Hospitals League of Friends and Phoenix Hospital Radio
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 October 2022 which are set out on pages 1 to 5
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 43 of the 1993 Act;
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the 1993 Act; and
-
• to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act
have not been met or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
Signed
Karen King FCCA
