Appointed by existing trustees from churches in the Deanery of Chalke, in the
Church of England DI0￿Se of SaSisbury
Each of the 42 dioceses in the Church of England has one or more
partnership links with churches in the Anglican Communion overseas. The
Di0￿Se of Salisbury has been linkéd with the Episcopal Church in Sudan
since 1972. In 2013, the Deanery of Chalke established a link with the
DI0￿Se of Cueibet in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan in the Republic
of South Sudan. This Charity operates the link with the Diocese of Cuell￿t on
behalf of the Deanery of Chalke.
The objects of Ihe charity ('the objects,) are:
11) To advance the Chrislian religion in Ihe area of the Anglican Diocese of
Cueibet, South Sudan for the benefft of the public through the holding of
conferenGes and providing Christian teaching maleiial.
(2} For the public benefit, to promote the education of the peopl8 in the
Di0￿Se of Cueibet in suGh ways as the trustees see frt, including:
(a) awarding such persons scholarships, maintenance alloWan￿S or
grants tenable at institutions of higher or further education
(b) providing their education, to undertake travel in furtheran￿ of it or to
prepare for entry to any occupation on leaving any educational
establishment
(3) The prevention or relief of poverty in the Diocese of Cueibet by
providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, agricultural and
healthrAre projects and all the necessary support designed to enable
individuals to generate a sustainable income and becorne self-sufficient.
Fundraising in Chalke Deanery.
Funding of projects and making grants to the DI0￿Se of Cueibet in line with
the objects of the Charity.
Regular communication with Bishop Elijah Matueny of the Diocese of Cueibet
and providing updates to the churches and people of Chalke Deanery on our
relationship with the people of Cueibet.
Making visits to the Di0￿se of Cueibet. annually when possible, to develop
the partnership betsveen the two organisations and to monitor current
projects and explore options for providing support for future developments.

The Trustees held six meetings in 2025. A visit to Cueibet was made by one
trustee, Dr She￿ood Elcock. A major appeal was organised to raise funds to
support the continuation of the rebuilding of the classrooms of the Cueibet
Church Primary School.
The main focus of our support in 2025 was education in the fomi of rebuilding
the Church Primary School and sponsorship of individuals in education.
The dual purpose of Dr She￿ood Elcock's visit, 11-25 February 2025, was
to review progress on the School rebuilding project and discuss with the
Archbishop Alapayo Kuctiel of the Intemal Province of E8Stem Bahr El
Ghazal, whi¢h includes Cueibet DI0￿Se, the arrangements for the retirement
of Bishop Elijah Matueny, Bishop of Cueibet.
The rebuilding of the Church Primary School is the mosl signrficant projed
that has been undertaken Sin￿ the formation of Chalke Deanery's link with
the Diocese of Cueibet Enabling a Christian education for the present
children of Cueibet is the beginning of a prO￿s$ to enable self-sufficiency
and growth and gives Ihe next generation hope for this troubled country.
The project was originally planned in 2 phases to be executed as funding
became available.
Phase 1, the first block of classrooms, was completed in March 2025. Phase
2, the second block consisting of classrooms and offI￿S began in June 2025
The plan was larger than originally envisaged and it was agreed thal building
would continue into 2026 as funding became available.
As trustees, our con￿rn was to ensure that, pending the appointment of a
new bishop, arrangements were put in place for oversight of the Diocese in
terms of projects supported by the charity, the security and management of
funds provided by the charity and communication between the charity and
the Diocese of Cueibet. Following the visit, the ￿tIrement date of Bishop
Elijah of 1 June 2025 and oversight arrangements were subsequently
confirmed with Archbishop Alapayo.
During the period, a total of £37,465 was raised from individuals, Parochial
Church Councils and organisations in the Deanery. This was the highest
annual figure Sin￿ the formation of this charity in 2018. The rèbuilding of th8
Church Primary School clearly evoked considerable support from donors.
Total expenditure was £31,974, of which £23.313 was on the continuing
school rebuilding project.
In making decisions about the use of funds to support the Diocese of
Cueibet, the tnjstees, had due regard to the Charity Commission's public
benefit guidance when exercising any powers or duties lo which the guidance
was relevant.
The current policy is to maintain a rese*ve of £2,000 for administration costs
and any requirement for unplanned emergency funding. The Charity has no
contractual obligations or employees or assets to maintain. The policy and
level of reseNes is reviewed annually by the Twstees.
