The Objects of the CIO are:
Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
(i) To promote the safety of the public generally or of any section of the public and or members of the public, against disasters involving multiple deaths or injury or extensive destruction of buildings or property, where such disasters occur in public places and whether by land, water or air, and in particular for the above purpose to devise, research, carry out, make known, disseminate, advocate, explain and advance principles and methods for securing or furthering the prevention of and protection against accidents of all kinds likely to give rise to such disasters; (ii)to enlist and provide support, succour, guidance and assistance generally to those including dependants and families, who have been or may be affected by such disasters or may be so affected in the future.
The Trustees confirm that they have had regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance where relevant. Disaster Action members have continued to provide guidance, assistance and advice to various professionals as well as supporting those directly affected by disasters.

Provided advice and guidance to various organisations delivering post-incident support following 2017 incidents, including the Grenfell Fire and Manchester Arena attack.

Continued to advise the Manchester Memorials Advisory Group regarding permanent memorialisation following the 2017 attack

Delivered peer mentoring and support functions within the Manchester Attack Support Group Programme

Shared DA principles and learning through participation and presentations at national at international meetings and conferences

Prepared and contributed to various publications including research papers on peer support and international best practice guidelines on responding to collective trauma events

Presented at various training and education sessions with emergency planners, strategic responders and crisis support teams.
