The Luxford Centre Executive Ghaimian'$ Roportfor 2024 AGM 11 May 2024 11am. It does not seem possibleth8twe were all sitting here ayear ago. The time hasflown by8nd yet lot of business happened during 2023. So. let's de81 with the disappointing item firstly to get it out of the way. Lasi ye8r, I reported that we had obtained planning permission for the storage luseful area extension on the southern end of the building and that we would b8 obtaining quotalions for its construction. Sadly. ttespite the vali8nt efforts of David. our treasurèr, io obtaln grant aid to 8S8iSt us in this project we have been un$u¢cessful in this regard. David approached various funders to no av8il. We ale still working on this to acquire the necessary lunds. So. keep your fingers Crossed for better news next year. Having retirèd as out tieasurer. Joan Wilcox kindly volunteered to njn and m8nage 8 facebook page for the Centre. This has been very successful with lots of intefesl, so thank you for all your good work on this. Ong of the items that has taken up a lot of lime ai our meeiings has been the receipt of a report by the Fire Off ice(. Thi8 has involved us in a huge 8mountofwork, when I say us I me8n especially Dorothy. in receiving and analysing the feport and preparing a plan of action and instigating processe8 to ensure compliance. Tnis h88 gone on during this year and carried on into this current year. Whi13118ay Doroihy has borne the brunt of the arr8nging Bob ha$ spent much time in fitting the door guards, which We a requirement of the File Officer's recommendations. Sothenkyou to both fof 811yourlime and efforts. Durin8 the year we experienced a Pfoblem concerning the use of the cooker- again 888OCl8ted with health and safety- which precluded us from using the opplionce for a lengttt of time until we could h8ve an intertocker fitted to the gas Supply. This unit prevents the Cooker from operating if the exlractor lan noi working. if you are interested. I would like to register my thanks 8nd appreciation to Jenny Taylor. our cook. for her patience an¢Y help Ouring this time and her ingenuity in gtill providing meals without the oven. Whilst talking about the kitchen we should record our appreciation on S* level graduation byWe8lden Districi Councll. Finally wlth the kitchen the annual deep clean was carried out to ensure hygiene levels were m8intBined. The effects of the rising costs of all the utilities and lite in general h8s had a considerable repercusslon on our finances. Although, we have a relatively healthy bank b8tance 8t present as D8vid explsined 8nd th8t bookings by outsioe bodes and groupg are also saiist8Ctorywe must continue to keep 8 ¢arehJl watch on our expenditure and in particular the utilities. I think everyone is now conscious of heating and lighting costs and our duty to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Bob and l investigated the insulaiion levels in the building and are satisfied, th8t without going to enormous costs. that the building insulation levets. as they ore currenrly, are Satisfactory. We are currently goingthrough 8 Period of great change in the executive committee. David Lucas has resigned as OLrr treasurer. He has in the time spent with us, carried out his duties as tre8surer with PTofession81 expertise. care to detail and breath of vision. in keeping our records up to date. Not satisfied with having the responsitrjility as treasurer he has also been our bookings clerk. Which, I hasten to add. he volunteered for and has oper8ted effectively and well until his retiiement. J08n Rich8rds from the House Committee is ni)w Custodian of th8t m08t irnportant task. again havingvolunteered. The bookings are vital to the continued success of
the club 88 they bring in funds to allow the club to continue and they pay the bills. Also not forgetting the hugely important role that this facility provides as 8 venue for many clubs and societies within our community- I would like to thank David lor his help 8na support auring his tenure and wish him all the bestfor the future. We are extremely lucty and fortunate that Yvonne Linthwaite has 8greed to t8ke over the fole 88 tfe8surer. Having known Yvonne for many years I knowthat this task is vested in s8fB and trustworthy hands and that she will follow in the 301id footsteps of 811 her predecessors. Welcorneyvonne. Jill Oaly very long-tirne member of the executive committee and my vice chairman, ever since I took on this role h88 tendered her resignation. This is not the first time she has expressed wish to stand down but thig lime I have very sadly agreed to accept it. Jill is an incredible woman. I think that I first met Jill wh8n she was Town Mayof back in 1991-1994. 1 was tot811y impressed with her performance in that role allthoseye818 ago. She was outstandingand brought 8 whole new level of expertise to th8t most prestigious off ice. I have rem8ined 8 discip18 of h8rs ever since. She does not $8ya lot butwhenevershe doesyou should listen and take heed bacause il will be very pertinent and relevant. l am very sorry that you are retiring, we will all miss you and your wisdom. So. you will now be able to enjoy the rest of your lrfe without Ihe burden of ihe Luxford Centre {Chris Macve presented Jill with a rose bush named Elizabeth). Another very long standing 8nd dedicated eommittee memberwho is retiring is Sean O'H8ra. Sean was for manyyears chairman and ha8 been a staunch and hard VrkIngSUpporter0fth8 ¢lub and member. So rn8nythanks for 811your p8St endeavouTS and 8UPPOrt and allthevery best for the future. He was chairman before myself and alternated wilh me. Now they say things come in threes. So. our third is 8nother retiree. Dorothy our secretary for I don't know how manyyears ha3 decided that she needs more time at home and with her husband and family. I don't know what to say aboul her other than that she has been 8 m8instay and rock of Ihis org8ni98tion as I said foi many years. Her attention to detail and organisation have 808n us through good affld L1itticult limes an(J enatsled the club to C8rry on providin8 the service as the original intention ol Dora Nunn 8n¢y her intrepid band intended. Dorothy will be sorely missed. (She was presented wilh a garden Azaelial Sue and Will Harper have also chosen not to stand again as Trustees after their current three years as Trustees. Thank you to them fortheiT support over manyyears. Finally. I would like to thank all the committee members for their help. support and guidance over rhis past year. They have been a tremendous group antt like to think th8t we have jointly enabled the club to prosper in some smallway. Thankyou. As mentioned, we have verydepleled executive committee now and are keen towelcome new members so if you 8re interested or know of anyone who might be please let me know. We 8re 8113ufferlng from with advancingyears and need newfresh blood and ideas. Chris Macve. Chairman ol the Luxford Centre.

Treasurers Report 2023 The 2023 accounts show that your club has well and truly bounced back from the dark days of Covid. Every category of Income is at a record high, and hiring's went up by 1500/0. The increase in the number of members has helped drive the increase in income from memberfs clubs and activities. This resulted in a welcome reversal of the 2022 deficit to surplus of £5285 in 2023. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the hard working House committee and all the volunteers who give up their time and energy without payment. As expected inflation and the increased level of activity caused an increase in the running costs of the centre. Energy costs increased and will continue to rise during this year as well. The negalive cost shown for Sewage and Water was caused by a belated refund from Castle Water which relates back lo the accounts of 2021. Averaged out over the three years affected the annual cost is £235. In the pursuit of clarity I should inforn you that these accounts do not show, and have never shown, the cost of food purchased for Thursday lunches. This cost is deducted from the lunth income before being recorded. I would like to thank Mr Paul Sparks for his efficient auditing of the accounts. I regret that during 20241 had to resign as Treasurer and Bookings sec. and I wish you all the best for the future. David LUCAS 10th April 2024.
