MINUTES OF THE DUNSTABLE MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANY’S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 19[TH] JULY 2022AT THE LUBYA HALL, MANCHESTER PLACE , DUNSTABLE AT 7.45pm.

1. Apologies for absence were received from Naomi Star, Debbie Dunstan, Simon Rollings, Rosemary O’Toole, Joanna Smale, Helen Rudderham, Angela Goss, Jenny Hollingshead, Pauline Knowles, Susan Young, and Ellie Fromrow

2. The minutes of the previous year’s AGM were accepted with Julie Foster proposing and Zoe Foster seconding.

3. There was no correspondence

4. Reports – Fiona gave her report as Chairman, and incorporated the financial statement in Pauline’s absence.

   - Well, what a difference a year makes – this time last year the AGM was the first face to face meeting of the society in over 18[th] months, and we have now performed two shows in three venues and held two social events!

So first we go to Nunsense. This was both a success financially, as you will see from the finance sheet, and from a cast and audience point of view. This was definitely the perfect show for us to come back with , and was appreciated by all who came to watch.

As you will see from the accounts all three venues were well supported – looking at the bar income Eaton Bray were clearly the bigger drinkers, but that may be down to the layout of tables at Caddington… With the profits on the bar, plus the raffles and the much lower hall cost for Caddington, we made a profit of £746.55!

It wasn’t without its problems though, with a last-minute change of venue needed due to Toddington cancelling our booking, so I would like to thank Lucy O’Hare for all her help in getting us the Collingswells Hall in Caddington.

Now, on the other show that we can finally name as we have performed it – Jekyll and Hyde.

Again, this was another success both financially and in terms of audience figures. We made a small, but reasonable profit of £356.41.

This was largely down to being able to get the majority of our costumes from the Rep, ACT and people supplying their own – this is something to bear in mind for future productions at this venue, especially if they have large casts, as this may not make Rep shows as lucrative as we would

like. The raffles also helped bring in some vital income, so thank yu Veronica for organising these.

We had to write off £467.52 from before covid, which covered rehearsal rooms and publicity.

So what do we have planned for the future? Unfortunately we lost the license for Me and My Girl which we were hoping to perform in the Grove this year. In its place, we are planning a larger scale Christmas Show, including sketches, Christmas songs and readings that will be taking place over three nights at the beginning of December at Toddington, Caddington and the Little Theatre. This is open everyone, so please come along in September when we will resume rehearsals. I will update everyone via facebook once we have had a production meeting on Monday.

Then on to May 2023 – this will see John O’Leary- Fawcett make his directing debut with us with Little Shop of Horrors at the Little Theatre Chris Young is Musical Director, the choreographer is Katy Elliott and Veronica Yates is assisting. We will update you nearer the time for details about auditions etc.

Lastly I have the pleasure of announcing we will be returning to the Grove in October 2023 with Sunset Boulevard- Alan Goss is directing with Joanna Smale as Musical Director.

The accounts show that we are in a good position financially , but , with rising costs we need to be careful as performing in the Grove is very expensive. With this in mind , I hope you will support all the fundraising activities we plan to put on in the coming year.

5. Elections- As there was only one nomination for all the positions they were elected without a vote.

President – Councillor Peter Hollick

Vice President – Greg Varney

Chairman – Fiona Whiteside Vice Chairman – Zoe Foster Honorary Secretary – Veronica Yates Honorary Treasurer – Pauline Knowles Business Manager – Manda Isekwe Production Manager – Liam Whiteside Publicity/ Marketing Manager – Chris Young

Members Secretary – Denise Ryan Assets manager – Julie Foster

Social Secretary – Joanna Smale

Our auditor is Higgins and co., our solicitors are Morton’s and our bank is Lloyds.

It was a unanimous decision to make Edward Smale a life member in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the music of the society.

6. Any other business–

It was agreed that membership fees should stay at £30 per year – reducing to £20 if a standing order is set up, and that the show fee would be decided on a show-to-show basis.

Cathy asked if there was to be a show fee for the Christmas show. It was suggested that we ask for a small fee to cover rehearsal rooms etc.

She also requested that we did other social events rather than just quizzes. It was pointed out that the two quizzes were put together quickly in order to raise funds and that we planned to do others, including the Family Fun Day on August 7[th] .

Silo raised the question of people only paying membership when they are in a production. He asked if we could consider shows with large choruses to enable everyone to have a chance. This was discussed and Chris pointed out that Sunset Boulevard had a large chorus.

We continued to discuss the cost of shows and the fact that a large cast means a large costume budget.

Fiona brought the meeting to an end at 8.25
