Trustees' report (continued) for the year ended 31 July 2020

Objectives and activities (continued)

The charity's main activities

To advance the education of the public in Leeds and surrounding areas in the Spanish language, culture and traditions.

We have managed to do that by running a Spanish supplementary school every week for children up to 18 years old.

We provide Spanish Language classes and organising activities and events to educate the public in the culture and traditions of Spain and Spanish speaking countries.

Public benefit statement

In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular the advancement of education.

Achievements and performance

We have managed to carry on weekly Spanish language classes for the whole school calendar, finishing second trimester of the academic year with 114 students.

We have managed to carry on with on line activity during Covid19 pandemic.

We have managed to support families with financial difficulties to receive Spanish language classes for their children.

Financial review

The net receipts for the year were £5,679 on unrestricted funds.

Impact of the coronavirus

The Covid19 situation has had a financial impact in our organisation.

During April/July’20 we carried on with on line Spanish classes for our students. That clearly had an impact but because we had some money to spend, we decided to use it.

Unfortunately the Covid situation has lasted much longer than expected and we have reviewed our classes to carry on partially with some of the classes which are financially sustainable.

We have done a survey with all supplementary school families. Results of that survey has been to carry on with online classes. We did also offer face to face classes but with the second lock down on 5th of November this is no longer possible.

Financial adjustments have been done, including reducing payments to teachers. With that and considering that we will have at least 46 children this half term (until classes) we have calculated that we will lose £500 in total.

Board members have decided to use reserves money for that to be able to carry on with online classes.

We will reassess that situation as soon as we know after 2nd of December if lockdown carries on or not.

Reserves policy

The charity's free reserves, excluding fixed assets, at the year end were £12,038. There is no reserves policy.
