Summary of the maln actlvltles undertaken for the publlc beneflt The Area Meeting ensures the rlght holding of public meetings for worship. and regular meetings for church affairs in each of the constituent meetings . Ketterlng, Northampton and Wellingborough. The Area Meeting 5UPPOrts Quaker witness throu8h its public meetings for worship, and supports.social projects for the relief of poverty and suffering as well as Wltness for peace and reconciliation, both within its own geographlcal area and more widely throu8h the work of Britain Yearly Meeting of the Reli8ious Society of Frlends. Northamptonshire Area Meeting is one of seventy area meetlngs of the Religious Soclety of Frlends lQuakersl In England, Wales and Scotland. Contribuilon5, donations, legacle5, income ralsed from the use of the property by other charitable and nonprofit making organisations, and interest received are used on deepenlng and sharing our spiritual experlence and acts that arise from our faith. We support work for peace, justice, a 5U5tainable envlronment, the alleviation of suffering and vlctlms of oppression. Our local meetings for worship are open to all with no tests, and membership of the Society is open to anyone seekin8 truth. Summary of the maln achlevements durlng the perlod In June 2025 the Area Meeting held a residential weekend at Charney Manor. Members and attenders from all three meetin85 came tO8ether to know each other better and for spiritual renewal. Northampton local meeting has continued to work with blended meetings which work effectively as a permanent feature to extend worship face to face and on-line meetin8 together. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE AREA QUAKER MEETING OF THE RELIGIOUS SOCIETY OF FRIENDS (QUAKERSI IN BRITAIN Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 December 2025 Financial review Financial position The total liquid funds available to the Area Meeting remain stable. at about £409,448- held between Area Meetin& and its Local Meetings. The trustees consider this to be sufficient to meet the anticipated demands of the Area Meeting,which includes the upkeep of three Mature Meeting Houses. Each local meetin8 ha5 Its own treasurer. from January 2026 this has changed. the Area Meeting now has a single treasurer, who covers both Local and Area Meeting Funds- the local meeting accounts being consolidated each year within those of the Area Meetin8. The three Meeting Houses are shown as a fixed asset in the accounts, they are functional properties and there is no intention to sell them. BuildinES are insured for £3.458.979. Additionally, the Area Meeting owns two investment properties. Both are Current leased to Northampton Domestic Abuse Service as refuge houses and are inSUd for £506,287 in total. The income from rEnts Is used for general purposes. It should be noted that although labelled as investment properties, the provision of these two Refuge Houses is undertaken primarily as a means of providing a socially sustainable use for Capital Assets of the Area Meeting and is not managed on profit maximisation principles. The rent of the investment properties provides some income. but the majority of income within the Area Meeting come from the contributions of members and attenders. and from the hirirbg of the Meeting Houses to other groups. Matching expenditure and income remained challenEing in a time of high inflation nd fairly static income streams. but the Area Meeting Cash Flow as a whole was able to grow by about £42,000 in 2025. Hiring revenues remain below pre-pandemic levels, but are slowly recovering. Member contribLrtions remain broadly flat. Offset against this is the impact of rising inflation, which put5 pressures on costs. Reserves remain at a comfortable level for now. with overall cash flows positive in 2025. However, income and expenditure will need to be carefully managed to prevent an entrenched structural deficit from developing. The three Meeting Houses are of an age that require ongoin& substantial renovation to ensure their proper upkeep. The combination of substsntial cash and investment assets and regular contribution income provide strong rlsk protection against variable hiring intome and ongoing upkeep costs of maintaining its 3 Meeting Houses. The long-term viability of The Area Meeting ultimately rests on maintaining its membership at a vi8ble level in the decades and centuries lo come, as existing local meetings grow or decline. and new local meeting5 arise. The Funds of the Area Meeting and its constituent Local Meetings are not cumulatively at current risk of running into deficit. The option and facility exist to transfer funds from one fund to another within the Area Meeting where required. Ultimately the contributions of members have always remained the core means of maintaining the liquidity of the Area Meeting and have remained responsive to the needs of the Area Meeting. Area Meeting does not currenily have a separate formal reserves poliry, but In practlce malntalns a reseNe sufficient to enable it to undertake the following yearfs expenditure as well as to respond to unforeseen needs, both for property restoration and ongoing support fo the concerns supported by members of the Meeting. To this end, a rollin8 bud8et is maintained and five yearly surveys of the properties are carried out. Whilst Local Meetin85 pay the costs for everyday repairs and maintenance the Area Meeting itself assume5 the responsibility for renovation works on the Meeting House,. accordingly, a core and ongoing priorlty of Area Meetin85 it to ensure there are sufficient reserves at all times to cover such costs within the Building Fund. Annual contribution5 from Local Meetings to the Buildln8 Fund are to ensure the Bullding Fund femalns healthy.
