Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The Charity was established in 2018 and has been setting up its services and communicating its availability. The pandemic made it almost impossible for us to develop the relationships and the awareness we wanted, but we are now moving forward again. During the year, we continued to send out regular offers of support via social media and through Stowe School’s email and printed communications. Our national network of volunteer local representatives was put on hold as the pandemic continued but remains in place and will be increasingly important as our activities build up. In the year to November 2022, we have helped a larger number of Old Stoics with grants and/or practical support, in line with our objects of addressing individual cases of need and poverty. During the financial year we awarded six emergency grants of £500 in cases of particular need. |
Financial Review
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | At 30.11.2022 the Charity had a positive balance of £19,000, held on its behalf within the Old Stoic Society’s account at Stowe School. Income during the period consisted of a 2022 grant of £2,180 from the Old Stoic Society, plus a grant cheque from 2021 that was returned unpaid to the OS Society. As mentioned above, grants totalling £3000 were awarded during this financial period. Stowe’s Old Stoic Society underwent a rebranding in 2021 and the charity was charged £180 for a new logo to align with this. The OS Society included reimbursement of this sum in its donation to the charity. There were no Trustee expenses and no admin expenses. Significant amounts of volunteer time and home office facilities were used at no cost. We acknowledge gratefully the active support of Stowe School, the Old Stoic Society and their staff. |

| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
