TheCIOoperatesanurseryschoolintheWarwickshirevillageofSnitterfieldinabuildingwithinthe grounds
ofSnitterfieldPrimarySchoolleasedfromWarwickchireCountyCouncil.ThiswastheCIO'sfirstyear of
operatingthenurseryschoolfollowingthetransferoftheoperationsandassetsofSnitterfieldNursery School
Ltd (a 'not-for-profit' company with registered company number 07672389) to the CIO on 2 April 2020.
```

Thenurseryschoolhasbeenoperatingasitscurrentsitesince1994andhasanexcellent reputation,
attractingchildrenfromwithinthevillageandthesurroundingareas.Ittakeschildrenfromtheir second
birthdayuntiltheystartschoolandisopenduringschoolhoursinterm-timeonly.Duetocloselinkswith the
SnitterfieldPrimarySchool,thenurseryschoolhasbeenthefavouredoptionforchildrenwhoplanto attend
there. The setting is currently registered to take a maximum of 28 children.
```

ThesafetyandwellbeingofthechildrenisattheforefrontofeverythingatSnitterfieldNurserySchool and
staffandtrusteesarecontinuallyassessingtheprovisiontoconsiderhowthesettingcanbeimproved to
meettheneedsofthechildren.Theaimistoprovidethehigheststandardsofcarewiththeopportunity for
childrentoexpandtheirexperiencesandgainconfidencebeforetheirtransitiontoschool.Thisisdone within
ahappyandsafeenvironment,wherechildrenlearnthroughfunandplay.Thenurseryfollowsthe Early
YearsFoundationStagesframework,whichsetsoutacurriculumthatensuresthatchildrencanachieve their
potential whilst recognising their individual needs.
```

Themajorityofchildrenattendinguseonlytheirgovernmententitlementtofreechildcare,although some
payprivatelyorfundadditionalsessions.Approximately20to25%ofnurseryincomeisgenerated by
privatelypaidfees.Thetrusteesaimtokeepfeesforprivatelypayingchildrenandanytop-upcharges for
publiclyfundedchildrenasmodestaspossibleinanefforttomakethenurseryaffordabletoall. Top-up
chargesaredeliberatelylimitedtomorningsessions,whenactivitycoststendtobehigherandasnack is
offered,sothatthosewhocannotaffordtopayatop-upchargecanusetheirfreeentitlementtochildcare in
the afternoons without any additional charge.

Thenurseryschoolisincrediblyfortunatetohaveateamofhighlyqualifiedandexperiencedstaff,some of
whomhavebeenpartofthenurseryforover10years.Itcurrentlyhassevenpermanentpart-time members
ofstaff:themanagerwhoholdsaBAHonsinearlychildhoodstudies,afurtherfivemembersofstaff holding
children'scare,learninganddevelopmentqualificationsandanadministrativeassistant.Ongoingtraining is
provided for all staff.
```

## `OFSTED`

ThetransitiontoaCIOstructurerequiredanewOFSTEDregistration.Thenurseryschoolwaslast inspected
byOFSTEDinJanuary2017,whenitoperatedunderitspreviousregistrationnumberasalimited company,
andobtainedaratingof'Good'.Nochangesweremadetotheday-to-dayrunningormanagementof the
nursery upon its transfer to the CIO.
```

## `COVID-19` 

```
Thenurseryschoolclosedon20March2020astheUKbegananationallockdownduetothe COVID-19
pandemic.Althoughnoprivatelypaidfeeswerechargedtoparentsduringtheclosure,Warwickshire County
Councilcontinuedtofundchildrenontheregisteralreadyinreceiptoffundingforfreeearlyyears childcare.
TheCIOwasalsoabletoobtainsomelimitedsupportinmeetingstaffwagesthroughthe Government's
Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
```

## **`OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES`**

Duringthenurseryschool'sclosure,theteammaintainedcontactwithallfamiliesandwereableto provide
activitiesandresourcesforfamilieswhereneeded.BeforereopeninginJune,thenurseryschoolcompleted a
fullriskassessmentandformulatedareopeningplan,whichwassharedwithstaffandparents.This plan
necessitatedsignificantreorganisationofstaffing,resourcesandtoysandafundamentalreorganisation of
thelayoutofnursery.Havingalargenurserybuildingwithtwoseparateentrancesandtwoseparate gardens
enabledthesplittingofchildrenintotwoseparate'pods'ofchildrenandstaff.Outsideactivities were
encouragedwhereverpossible.Thesechangesalsoinvolvedinvestingsignificantfundsonnewequipment to
enablethespacesforthetwoseparate'pods'tooperateindependentlyandtoensurenewcleaning routines
could be carried out effectively.
```

Thenurseryschoolwaswellplacedtohandlethesechangesduetotheexperience,flexibility and
professionalismofthenurseryteam.Thetrusteesaregratefultoallstaff,whohavecontinued working
during such worrying and uncertain times.
```

Aswasthecaseformostchildcaresettings,somefamilieschosenottoreturntheirchildrentonursery school
inthesummertermduetocontinuedconcernsovertheCOVID-19risk.BySeptember2020,child numbers
hadreturnedtonormallevels.InJanuary2021,theUKenteredasecondlockdownalthough childcare
settingswereallowedtoremainopen.Again,somefamilieschosetokeeptheirchildrenathome. The
number of children attending nursery returned to normal levels by the end of March 2021.
```

Atthetimeofwriting,theTrusteeshavemadesignificantprogresstowardssecuringanewpremisesfor the
nurseryschool.Anewpremisesisessentialasthecurrentbuildingisnearing50yearsoldandwas only
intendedasatemporarystructure.TheCIOisresponsibleforitsmaintenance,costsofwhicharehigh, and
itsfuturelifespanisuncertain.TheTrusteeshavebeenengagedindetaileddiscussionswith Snitterfield
ParishCouncilandSnitterfieldCricketClubtoagreearrangementsandfundingforanewshared-use building
tobeerectedonthesiteoftheexistingcricketpaviliononSnitterfieldPlayingFields.Architect's drawings
have been drawn up and the planning application is in the process of being drafted.
