Nunburnholme Jubilee Committee Chair’s Report from 1[st] November 2023 to 31[st] October 2024
Meetings held in 2024:

Introduction:
As a small community group of volunteers, the Jubilee Committee has enjoyed another successful year.. The fund raising events were well attended and enjoyed by the community.
Yet again through the generosity of a £250 donation from Nunburnholme with Kilnwick Percy Parish Council and some innovative fundraising the Jubilee Committee has managed to organise some exceptional events this year, and continue to contribute significantly towards the maintenance of the church and the village amenities.
Christmas Concert
The Good Company choir performed a wonderful Christmas Concert - ‘Nowell, Nowell’ in early December. A hot supper of homemade beef stew or vegetable pasta was served with focaccia bread. The magical Christmasy evening was topped off with large snow flakes quietly falling in the churchyard whilst people were being served delicious food from a gazebo just outside the church door! Thank you to everyone who assisted in making the event so memorable. The amazing sum of £600 was raised for British Heart Foundation - Pocklington & District Branch.
Christmas Wreath Workshop
On Sunday 10th December Caroline and Mike kindly hosted our 9th wreath making workshop.
Judy showed the group, consisting of 18 adults and 3 children, several techniques to create a wreath. Everyone then set to putting their own creations together. Caroline served delicious mulled wine and mince pies to complete our festive event. Many thanks to all who contributed in any way, which includes allowing us to cut greenery from your garden, your support is very much appreciated.
The event raised the super sum of £400 for the Jubilee Committee, to be used to maintain our church and village amenities. Special thanks to Judy!
Church repairs and maintenance:
During the year the Jubilee Committee paid for the church Copyright Licence and the emptying and maintenance of the Portable Toilet.
The JC also paid for the annual programme of grass and hedge cutting which was carried out in the churchyard during the spring and summer months.
Summer Fair and DDay celebrations
On the blustery cool bank holiday weekend in August we held our Summer Fair! Fortunately lots of people braved the inclement weather to come along.
The atmosphere was warm and friendly, families enjoyed participating in the activities such as the Tombola, Treasure Hunt, Bottle Stall and Fortune Telling. The BBQ and Bar were well supported too!
Finally, towards the end of the afternoon most of the people attending participated in our Quiz too.
All in all it was a fantastic community event raising the amazing sum of £590. A big thank you from the Jubilee Committee to all who contributed in any way.
Lexi and Hetty’s ‘Bramble Bakers’ Stall
During the latter part of their Summer Holiday, Lexi and Hetty were foraging for wild brambles and came up with the idea to bake bramble and apple crumble.
That idea grew into making buns and biscuits as well! Whilst baking they planned to run a stall to sell their baked items.
So the ‘Bramble Bakers’ held their stall in the centre of the village and decided to give the money raised to our church funds.
It was a great idea and proved to be a fantastic success having raised enough money to pay for the ingredients they used, and give the church £25!
Ye Aulde Folke Concert with Pie and Pea Supper
On the last Saturday in September the Jubilee Committee organised a folk concert with Ye Aulde Folke, an experienced 5 member band. It was wonderful to see such a well supported event, plus the pie and pea supper was delicious and the entertainment was delightful!
Thank you to all who supported in any way, particularly Fresh Foods in Pocklington who provided the pie and peas. The Jubilee Committee raised £365 towards supporting our church and community.
Archaeology Talk by Peter Halkon
On the last Saturday in October we had an excellent evening with Peter’s Archaeology Talk taking centre stage; it was extremely interesting, very informative and up to date. Peter included photographs, taken by Richard Webster, of the sarcophagus which recently found in the churchyard whilst working on the new drainage system. Many thanks go to Peter, plus we made history by having the very first showing of the new Archaeology Travelling Museum from the Pocklington and District Heritage Trust which was set out around our Nunburnholme Cross, and it looked splendid.
We very much appreciated all the help we received on the evening; the grand total of £502 was raised for the Jubilee Committee to use to support the church and the community.
100 Club
The Jubilee Committee continues to run the monthly Church 100 Club Draws. The funding for the 100 Club is in a separate JC account and is audited each year.
