Ob"ectives and activities
To promote humane behaviour towards animals by providing
appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for cats
and dogs in need of care and attention by reason of sickness,
maltreatment, poor circumstances, or ill usage and to educate
the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general
and the prevention of cruelty to and suffering among animals.
Summary ofthe objects ofthe
charity set out in its
governing document
PAWS
RESCUE
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Paws Flescue UK (PRUK) was registered with the charity
commission in 2018 and primarily acts as a platform for Paws
Rescue Qatar (PRQ) to re-home abandoned cats and dogs from
the streets of Qatar to loving forever homes in the UK, Europe,
Canada, United States and across the world and facilitate
getting them to their adoptive homes.
PRUK adoption process. A careful screening and matching
process is undertaken for all animal adoptions. All applications
are carefully reviewed, references are taken and adopter and
home checks (virtual) take place. We use our knowledge of each
animal and do our utmost to ensure that person/home matches.
All adoptive homes are assessed on an individual basis some of
whom have been blanket turned away from mainstream
adoption charities citing reasons such as no outdoor space,
children etc. We set up chats with adopters, fosters and shelter
personnel for each adoption. We give advice to all adopters,
along with full back up, post adoption care and behaviour needs
advice. In the unlikely event that the adoption fails we will make
alternative arrangements to find the right home for that animal.
We will always try, whenever possible to ensure that each dog or
cat proposed has spent time in foster care prior to them flying to
their forever homes. Fostering plays a key part in helping a
rescued animal on its journey to a new life.
We charge an adoption fee which is used to contribute towards
the cost of rescue, veterinary costs, rehabilitation, and travel/
export.
All our animals are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered,
microchipped. dewormed and have received a ticldflea
treatment prior to rehoming. All dogs are Brucellosis tested and
Cani- 4 tested for heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia and
Anaplasma. All cats are tested for Fiv/FELV. Most countries also
require to have had a rabies serology test- RNATh (Rabies
Neutralising Antibody Titre Test.)
PRUK Positive Adoption Process. Sometimes an animal may
have special needs in terms of disability, health, behavioural
issues or even be a particular breed. In these cases we will

actively look for suitable adopters and organisations that
specialise in looking after them. This c'ould be a rescue group
that cares for disabled and life ending animals. Groups that work
with animal wheelchairs or have the specialist resources and
experience to help animals with behavioural issues. For some
breeds of dogs such as working dogs, huskies we will look for
homes in northern, colder climates such as Canada and North
America or homes in rural areas.
PRUK Travel Planning. prepares and books all necessary travel
arrangements, permits, health checks and other paperwork to
facilitate the international rehoming of our cats and dogs. We
also help advise the expats of Qatar who want to repatriate their
pets what they need to have in place in order for them to take
their pets home. We also can provide a not-for-profit repatriation
service.
PRUK will take every opportunity to educate and instigate
meaningful dialogue with the Qatar ministries and important
decision makers.
Additional detsils of objectives and activities (Optional infomiation)

Paws Rescue is run entirely by non paid volunteers. All
trustees are in essence volunteers.
The charity is extremely grateful to all our volunteers without
whom not a single animal could be rescued and rehomed.
A number ofvolunteers help us in numerous ways, which
include (but is not limited to) activities such as

Hoarder Cats
Between 2022 and 2023 we were tasked with the rescue and
rehabilitation of almost100 cats from one small apartment. As is
often the case, the person caring for these cats didn't believe in
neuter and his cat population grew out of control. The cats were
sick, he couldn't afford food or medication for them and they
were dying. With hoarding tendencies this was a very difficult
rescue and took several months to fully achieve. Three of the first
cats we rescued were siblings Bodkin, Boo and Prawn. They
were so pitiful but such friendly little souls that we used their
photo for our fundraiser. Once we had managed to stabilise
these kittens, they were put into foster homes until they were
able to flyto newfamilies in the UK. Bodkin and Boo live happily
together in Yorkshire, whilst Prawn has moved into London,
becoming an internet sensation, recently making his acting
debut in an advertisement for beautifully soft jumpers.
It took us almost a year to rehome all the cats but was our
reatest achievement of this financial
ear.

Wilma's story.
Wilma was a super friendly dog that lived in Sailiya. a large area
of desert and rubble south west of Doha.
Living there are around 150+ dogs in packs with territories
within. Wilma was part of a small packof6,3females and 3
males.
Her body was evident of the numerous litters she had had. She
would follow the feeders in their cars from feeding station to
feeding station craving attention and love.
/l$l
Wilma guarding over her dead puppies in a pile of rubble in the desert.
The two other females in her pack were caught and taken to be
spayed and space was made available for them in the shelter.
Volunteers went back for Wilma but she had disappeared. They
searched for a few weeks but couldn't not find her. It was
thought that like many others she had been hit by a car, shot,
poisoned or killed by other dogs. Then one day she reappeared.
The volunteer wanted to take her there and then but suspected
that she may have recently given birth and had puppies
somewhere and was nursing them. A difficult area to search
miles and miles of rubble with most dogs hiding during the day
to keep out of the crippling desert sun she was eventually found
guarding over her puppies . With no space at the shelter the
volunteer scooped her up into her car and took her home. That
night she was bathed and slept more soundly than she had ever
done in her life. The next day she was taken to the vet to be
health checked and a spay and treatment of a head injury she
had suffered likely guarding her pups was made.

While at her fosters she met one of her fosters friends who had
come round for dinner. It was love at first sight and a decision
was made to Adopt!
Her adopter was freelancing in Doha her accommodation did
not allow pets. So Wilma patiently waited with her foster the
almost 2 years till her work contract ended. Her adopter visited
her regularly, took her for walks and looked after her and her
fosters other animals when her family went on holiday. In the
meantime she was spa

Trap Neuter and Release
PRUK along with PRQ manages a number ofTNR (Trap, Neuter
and Release) colonies in Qatar. With the help of volunteers these
colonies of cats and dogs are fed, watered, spayed and neutered
and receive veterinary care if needed. Whenever possible and
with shelter space and funds allowing some of these animals are
taken into the shelter, prepared for travel and rehomed. By far
the largest and one of the longest existing of these managed
colonies is the Sailiya dog colony in the district of Al Rayyan 13
miles south-west of Doha.

Paws Foster Families
Fostering is a wonderful way to help our animals on their
journey to their happy ever after. These temporary loving homes
have multiple benefits for cats and dogs. It can be a place where
a dog or cat can recuperate from a trauma or medical
procedure. It helps them acclimatise to a home life and can
make them more adoptable. It frees up shelter space meaning
another dog or cat can be rescued.
It's a way to really get to know that dog or cat's personality
which is taken into account when matching them to future
adopters. PRUK, fosters and adopters are set up on fostering
chats which is a great way to support both foster and adopter
and animal.
Paws has a number of foster families in Qatar and the UK.

Alfie was born to a
stray mum living
on a construction
area where

volunteers were
regularly feeding
the family.
Someone had
noticed that one
puppy seemed to
have problems
with his eyes. She
took the puppy to
a vet and it was
confirmed he was
totally blind
Caroline and Carl brought the puppy home and named him
Alfie. Alfie stayed with them along with their other cats and dogs
while under the care of Paws Rescue.
Carolines words "Fostering any animal is special and a huge
honour, but being responsible for a blind puppy felt like an
even larger responsibility. However, Alfie didn't realise he
was different and was so de.termined to do all the things that
normal puppies d¢x He had our home mapped out in his mind
and would run, chase and play with the other dogs and the
occasional reluctant cat. He was a joy. It was such a privilege
to watch him manage obstacles and learn new thing& Alfie
was a snugglebug and loved feeling close and cuddled, even
managing to earn a place on our bed. When Alfie was about
4 months old he needed surgery to remove a large kidney

through seeing his

amazing and waited
until he was ready to
travel to Geneva to
be with her. My

together so that Alfie
