March **2012** **TAR** 3 Section D Achievements and performance ## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** Our local Afternoon Cream Tea event this year attracted 42 local residents who had a lively afternoon with food and drinks provided by Eastwood Lions. Entertainment was provided by the Yard Arm Folk Musicians who also provided musical instruments for accompaniment by the guests. Donating over £6757 to needy causes including large donations to provide a second defibrillator to the local community hall, outside for emergency public use; St Vincents Charity for Southend Homeless people, Morrisons for their nominated charity Together for short lives, and Lennox Childrens Cancer Charity. We also donated £100 to Southend Hospital Charity fund for their SGRT Cancer project. In addition, we provided Easter Fruit Baskets to local Sheltered Homes. We also continued our program of donating Wild tribe books to five local schools, this being the fifth year of donating updated editions to these schools. The books primarily deal with Ecological issues and are written and focused on junior school children. We continued to provide the Village Christmas Tree to be erected at Rochford Corner, with Council help; then to organise a public event attended by the City of Southend Mayor and the Local Southend MP to switch it on with a small public celebration. All monies are reviewed monthly at a Club Business meeting and annual accounts are completed by the Treasurer and signed by the President. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Standard applicable to the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019). ## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectives and aims** The objects of the club are such purposes as are exclusively charitable in England and Wales including in particular: The achievement of citizenship by: - Promoting the principles of good citizenship; - Encouraging members to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community; - Providing a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by members; - Encouraging service-minded people to serve their community without personal reward and encouraging the promotion of high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavours; - Supporting youth to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals; - Promoting the voluntary sector for the public benefit by associating with local authorities in a common effort to education and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation to improve the conditions of life of people in local, national and international communities; - - Promoting volunteering; - The relief of poverty and the relief of those in need in particular by providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief; - The advancement of health or the saving of lives by preventing avoidable blindness, assisting disabled people to lead independent lives or helping to prevent or manage health issues; - Promoting for the benefit of the people the conversation, protection, and improvement of the physical and natural environment; and / or - Promoting community participation in healthy recreation. ## **Significant activities** The club serves the local community as well as people internationally. They work with the people who are elderly, disabled and / or have disadvantaged benefit, also the wider community by making Southend on Sea and Eastwood a better place to live and work. They also make grants to some national and international appeals (e.g. to relieve poverty, respond to disabilities), extending the public benefit overseas. ## **Public benefit** The Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties. The public benefit of the Charity’s activities in the support and enablement of children, young people, the elderly, those with disabilities and all mankind and these are achieved principally by the award and monitoring of grants. Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination, or 4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable to the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102). 5.
