sealed by the Commission and racefved by the Trustees on 13th June 2007. The day to day activities of the
Charity have, slnce 1&1 Aprfl 2009. been conducted by Roy81 Cambrldge Home Limited. The CharSty relalns

Redevelopment
Th8s8 results refle¢l the facl that from 1st April 2024 to 21st August 2024 the company conllnu8d to op8rate
from Ils property al 82 Hurst Road and from that dale was operatlng from Ils new premises al 84 Hurst RoaLI. As
8t the dal8 of the transfer of the busln888 on 21 st August the Home was provlding care for 17 resldenl8.
The contract for the con81ruction of the new prgmisas w88 for a perlod of 64 week5 concluding on 29th July
2024. Work of construction was hamperad by poor weather conditions partkulady Ihrough the Sulumn and wnler
months and as 8 result the handing ov8r of posse89ion of tha new bulldlng was deferred unlll 12th August 2024.
Th8 contract sum agreed ot the oulsel of conslrucllon was Sn the sum of £8,117,942 plus related profes51onal
fees. Durtng the course of construction addlllonal costs were Incurred and as a result th8 orlglnally agreed Fixed
Land PayTnenl of £1,775.000.00 was reduced lo £1,548,334.
The new bulldlng provkilng accKJmmodallcffl for 32 residents each In slngle rooms wlth en Bulte showorlwc
8rrangod over ground, first, second and Ihlrd floors. All floors are served by lifts. On each floor level there is
a loung8ldining room lor communal use. In addilion Ihe Home provides a guest bedroom for the use of visiting
resident family members or frlends, a halrdresslngllherapy salon and library. A fully equipped kitchen prowdes
meals for all residents and residents. clothing is washad In a lully equlpped laundry. The General M8nager's and
admkn offices together w41h the Care Manager's office are located on the ground floor wih staff ch8nging and
rest faclllties provldgd on the third floor.

that when not in use for hairdresslngltherapy ils us8 85 8 library can contlnue. The existing halrdressingltherapy
salon wlll become th8 manag8r's Offi￿ and the existing managarfs office and admln office will b8com6 one
space.
The Home is supplied wth underfioor healing and domesllc hot water by means of 81r source heat pumps sited
in a compound lo the rear ol the building. Conslstenl provlsion of both healing and hot w8t8r has been somewhat
spasmodlc and has required the Intervention of engineers to adjust the system to operale to ils de8iuned
capacity and this is ongoing.
In the days iMM￿latelY following 12th August there was great acliwty In instsllng fumlture and furnlshings in
readiness to reCe￿e the résidents. The majority of fumilure and fumlshing items were Purchased from new and
we are very grateful to Mr Michael Sandford for his involvement both in advising and recommending suppliars.

The portrait of th8 first Duke Of Cambridge, In whos8 memory the Royal C8mbridge Homè was founded in 1851,
and which had for many years been hung In the hallway of 82 Hurst Road was ckaned and the framè
refurblshed and now hangs in a promin8nl poslllon In the entranc8 foyer of the Home.
On 21st August the transfer of re81d8nts trom 82 Hurst Road to the new bulwing was very skilfully handled by the
stsff who Greated a patty atmosphere and all seventeen residents were safety insta118d by lunchtirne on that day
and were inlroduc8d lo their new surroundings
The Home's gardening contractors hBve undertaken a consider8ble amount of wort( in prov￿Ing planlir)g of trees
and shrubs surrounding the car parking area al th8 front of Ihg bullding wlh further landscaping of the rear
gardens. The c6dar tree forms the major focus of the rear g8rden but is now supplemented with further planting
Includln9 a subslanlal ollve tree together wlh 8 variety of shrubs, Ire8$ elc. Landscaping has also provided a
paved palhwsy around part of th8 lawned rear garden. A work8hoplstor8 togeth&r with addllional storage sh&ds
and a stsff smoking 'gazebo" have also b88n added.
Rèvlaw of the Year
As al 181 April 2024 there wer8 17 resldents In the Home. During the year we admitted 13 resld8nls for
pemanenl slay and a further 3 iesidenls for v8rylng periods ol resplle care. No residents lefl Ihe Hom8 to live
elsewhere. Six resldènls died during th8 year. As at 31 sl March 2025 we were carlng for 27 residents.
The Home. In compllance with a request from thè Social Services Department of Surrey County Councll
conllnu88 to submll regular "Capaclly Checkerf, reports advising the authority of availability of 8ccommodalion,
staffing lovels elc. and In conjunction wlh this process is recelvlng applications for accommodalion under 8
'Discharge lo A888s$ programme the appllc8nts requSring ellh8r resplle or long tsm care with short lemi
fundlng belng provided.
COVID-19 conllnues lo presenl a threat, alboit much reduced. lo tho health and well-bèlng of the r8slden18 and
staff. Tho staff of the Home are constantly alert lo the ￿Sk8 which il presents. During the year lo 31st March 2025
we experi8nced one mlnor oulbreak ¥￿th no major consequences for ellher residonls or staff.
Wlth the reducllon In the incrdence of cov1￿19 51 has been posslble to arr8ng8 a wlde vaTlety of 8cllvltS88,
outings and entertainment for the residents and gratsful thanks are due lo the aclivillos organisers and all the
stsff for making these very successfLJI and enjoyable. Inc￿￿ed are pub lunches, vlsits to Hampton Court Palace
and Bushy P8rk. attendance al the rehearsal of the Fesllval of Remembrance al the Albart Hall together with
visits from singers and muslcians and Zoolab Iwilh exotic anlm8lsl- Shortly after the ye3r gnd the Home received
a cage together wrth an Incubator Bnd seven eggs from which hatched six chicks lo fill the ground fbor har￿aY
th ihe sound of cheeping. In due course the inhabitants of the cage wlll be transferred lo a coop at the re8r of
the Homes garden.
Monlhty Newslatters have contlnued lo bg publlsh8d glvlng a colourlul plcture of Ilfe 81 the Homo, notable events
and infomation on forthcomlng acllwlles.
The Home's Summer Garden Party was held on 12th July when w8 wor8 honoured lo welcome the Mayor of
Elmbridge. Counalbr Neill Houston together wth other friends of the Home as well as friends 8nd mambers of
residen15' familles.
The traditional "Stirring The Chrf8tmas Puddlw" ceremony was held on Thursday 28th November when we were
tyelighled lo welcome as our Guest of Honour, General Sir Jeremy Mackenzie, a fomier Governor of the Roy81
Hospital Chelsea and a great 5UPPOrter of the Royal Cambridge Home over many years. Again we were lolned
by residents, f￿endS and famity members.
We are, as ever, mlndful of the work and commltment of our 8t8ff in making tha Home a happy and sacure place
for our resldents. Our grateful thanks lo the Manager Rory Be￿eld and 811 the staff for their efforts under difficult
circumstsnces in the old bulldings during the constructlon work In the earlier part of the year and In particular skill
and care showrb lo the residents in tho move and settling in to the n8w premlses. Since the move to the new

perlod Red Construction Group have been very underslandlng and considerala neighbours and this is continuing
with their construction of Phase 2 of the development for Sheppard Trust currently scheduled to continue until
June 2026
As reported last year thank8 to Ihe hard work of Mrs Mckl O'Brf8n and Mrs Maggie Wllklnson the Home re¢eNed
accredilalion in tt)e Gold Standards Framework In settlng standards for the provision of "end of lrfe" care. The
8ccreditalion13 8ublecl lo regular revlew ¥Mth stsff receiving appropriate training and supeNislon.
The trustees ar8 vary appreclaliv8 of tha donations recehJ8d from Benef8Glor8 durlng th8 year and many
congratulations are du8 to all those staff members and friends who took p8rt in the Maglcal Mo1858y Evening In
November raising £457. Addilionalty a lurther sum of £415 was ralsed al th& Summer Garden Paty and
Christm88 Raffles. These funds were for the b8nefll of the Queen Mary Fund lo provld8 ent8rtolnmenl for
resldents.

As recordad In last yearfs annual report n8ws of the death of M8lor John Tatham was reCe￿8d with great
sadness. John was an invaluable member of th8 b08rd of dlreclorsltrustees for 29 years and the Home benefited
grealy from his loy81 swlce lo the Home. In his memory. on the firsl anniversary of his death some ol his ashe8
were Interred al the fool of the ollve tree In the Home's garden by John's ¥Mle logelhar with a m8morf81 plaque.

It Is the pollcy of the ch8rlty to maintain unrestricted funds, which are the free reserves of the Home, at 8 level
whlch oquates lo approxlm8lely three monlh8 unreslricled expenditure. Al this level the General Purposes
Committee foels that il would be able lo continue lo provlde a high standard of residenlial care in the event of a
significant decrease in the level of fundlng. At th8 year end the ch8rfty had unresMcl8d funds of £128,287. The
reglslered charity bén8llclal owner has unrestrlcted funds of £10,868,757.
