It is widely accepted that reading has a malor contributlon to genefal educatlon. The Friends of Kennington Llbrary IFOKLI exists to SUPPOrt the provision of librdry services in Kennington. Charlt•lJl• Athit501 FOKL organises events throughout the year for all age group5; some are held regulady each month le.g. Story Tlme and Rhyme Time for the younger a8e groups and author tslks for the more mature readerl. It also or8anises larger events periodically to attratt the wldest audIen￿. These events cover a range of topics ranging from presentation of chiklren's stories wrth oudlence participation to group discussion. The Frlends supported the ongolng relationship between the library and St Swtthun's Prlmary School: the school appointed two library ambassadors who made a video about how great the library is for chlldren, which can be viewed on the FOKL web site searching for.let us show you arounir. The 2025 AGM will be held in person at 7-30pm at 5t Swtthun's Willage cent￿ on Thursday Ilth September at which three Trustees appointed in January 2025 will stand down and offer themselves for re.electlon- and three trustees will reti￿. Members will receive documentation In mid August including a proxy voting forni and the Trustees Very muth hope that Mernbe￿ will take advantage of thi5 Should they be unable to attend the AGM in person. As in previous years, the rota of those workin8 alongside the library staff has been covered by regular volunteers, DurlnB the period organisation of the volunteergroup ha5 tr8n5ferred from Jenny Forder to new Trustee Kate Wright. The enthusiastic group of volurrteers has been joined by several more during the year and some have retired or are having a rest from volunteering. The Trustees are very grateful to all those who 8fve so willingly of their time and talents in support of thè library. We currently have around 11 attive volunteers, who between them help to cover one hour and half sesslon5 in the library each week. These volunteers are augmented by Duke of Edinburgh volunteers. R•gul•tary Chnues The 2024 AGM rosolutions amendin8 the constitution to increase the number of trustees, etc. were submitted to the Charlty Commlsslon ICC) on 3" July 2024 and duty recefved regulatory approval and were entered on the CC register on 24 October 2024. After some flfteen years, serving as a Trustee and Offrcef Helen Hurrell's resignation effertNe on 31. Dècember 2024 was entered on the CC re8irter on 2 January 2025. The Recruitment and Appolntmènt of three new Twstees. Kay Homer, Kathy Marsden and Kate Wri8ht was duly entered on the CC Re8i5ter on P January 2025. Actlvitles The very popular coffee talks were held throu8hout the period. We have wntirtued to use the large Main Hall at the Village cent￿ which has allowed a larger audience. The ever-popular FOKL Best Rèads of the year event was held in December 2024. Durin8 the period these Wednesday morninB events were au8mented by evening talks following requests by members for evening events for those who are unable to attend during the working week. These events were very successful and FOKL plans to continuè them in future. Four fundraising events were held during the perlod. a Murder Mirtery Evenin8, a talk on anlmatlon by Joanna Harrison, the popular Quiz Night, kindly sponsored by Tonk5 Brothers and a new fundraising event. the Autho￿ and Artists Fair where local authors and artists displayed their work. Children's events at the libtary. such as Rhyme fime. stories and Sing-Along and Craft attivities have continued throughout the year. Read Challenge on the theme of "Mafvellous Maker<, culminating in an End of Sltmmer Re3d Party at the Village Centre at which the children were presented wtth their certificates. Outreach activitle5 for nursery and school children have continued thro￿lOut the year. A Trcent initiative. the Board Games Club. has provided an opporwnity for Ical people to gather at Kennington Library to practice tompetitive skills. This was hosted by FOKL, but responsibilty for later events was tsken over by OCC. FOKL has supported a Tea Books reading group at Kennington Library. organised by Age UK, by paying for monthly hire of a room at the Village Centre. The Wami Welcome Wednesdays initiative. in conjunctlon v41th OCC, has continued through the winter month5 Wlth Kennington Library opening as a Iwami space. on Wednesday mornin8S. With the provision of hot drinks. etr.
