## **Trustee Annual Report**
The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements of the Charity for the year ending 31 March 2023. The financial statements comply with current statutory requirements, the Charity’s governing document.
## **Status and Governing Document**
Kids Against Plastic became registered as an CIO (Foundation) on 13 Sep 2018. The charity is governed by its present constitution which was adopted on 13 Sep 2018 and as amended on 01 Oct 2021.

## **Board of trustees**
The trustees are responsible for the governance and strategy of the Charity. During this financial year, all Trustee meetings were held by Zoom. As of 31st March 2023, the existing 10 Trustees remained in place and brought a balanced mix of skills in governance, business, and administration.
Kids Against Plastic supports the principles of good governance set out in the Charity Governance Code for smaller charities.
Trustees have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, the Charity’s management and administration. They must: comply with the Charity’s governing document and the law; act in the Charity’s best interests, manage the Charity’s resources responsibly; act with reasonable care and skill; and ensure the Charity is accountable.
## **Related parties**
Related parties are the Trustees and those individuals connected with them including family members and business associates.
Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of three years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.
Each Trustee is required to disclose potential or actual conflicts of interest to the Chair at Trustee meetings when relevant. In line with Charity Commission guidance, details of positions held by Trustees outside of the Charity are available to the public by request to the chair.
A charity Trustee or connected person may enter into a contract for the supply of services, or of goods that are supplied in connection with the provision of services, to the charity where that is permitted in accordance with, and subject to the conditions in, section 185 of the Charities Act 2011. A charity Trustee may receive a one-off payment of services such as specialist services, administration or secretarial work.

## **Kids Against Plastic initiatives updates**
## **Plastic Clever Schools** _www.plasticcleverschools.co.uk_
_The Plastic Clever Schools initiative is based on the Plastic Clever scheme and was developed to specifically support schools and students to reduce their plastic usage. The scheme aims to empower young people to become educated on plastic waste, and empowered to be the changemakers against it in their schools and communities. Plastic Clever Schools has 3 stages to it that schools work through – Inspire, Investigate and Act. These stages take schools through the process of raising awareness of plastic pollution within the whole school, auditing the most-used plastics in school, and reducing their use of them._
_In mid-2021, Kids Against Plastic partnered with the environmental organisation Common Seas to help deliver the Plastic Clever Schools programme (see more below under ‘Partnerships’) Amy worked for Common Seas and during the year 2021 - 2022._
## **The KAP Club**
_The KAP Club are a group of over 320 young people from 10+ countries that KAP supports and works with to encourage them to act on issues they are passionate about or interested in. Amy and Ella run a weekly Zoom meeting called the KAP Connect, where club members take part in activities and run their own, present to the others about topics that they are interested in and share what environmental actions they have been doing each week, and take part in the weekly challenges to win points._
_Children from the club also receive regular newsletters, covering what they may have missed at a meeting, or charity and club updates generally. The weekly challenges enable them to win a £10 book voucher, as well as points that they can use in the reward scheme for the club. The club is a great source of community for the members too, as they give and receive advice on their actions and develop their skills with a supportive group around them, even becoming friends with fellow members no matter the distance between them in person._

## **Litter picking + Be Plastic Clever app**
_The litter picking app created in partnership with Esri continues to be used to record litter picking all over the world. Many of the KAP Club members record their litter picking totals using the app._
## **Climate Clever Schools**
_Climate Clever Schools is a schools programme is being developed, similarly to Plastic Clever Schools, that uses information and advice from the Be Climate Clever book. It aims to be completed and begin delivery in 2023._
## **Amy + Ella action**
## **INKGA Young Leaders forum**
_Amy has just begun her second year as a member of Ingka’s Youth Leaders Forum, a group of 22 young people from 22 different countries who have been brought together to review Ingka’s policies and communications around sustainability and other wider topics. Amy attends quarterly forum meetings with the other youth leaders and the Ingka leadership team (including CEO Jesper Brodin), and has also been one of the four youth members of a Consumption Work Group that allowed a deeper dive into Ingka’s circularity goals and sustainability communications._
## **BFFP**
_Amy is a Break Free From Plastic ambassador from September – December 2022, working with other young people around the world on engaging youth with plastic pollution._
## **Zurich Insurance**
_Amy and Ella have worked with Zurich Insurance multiple times over the last couple of years. They were both virtually part of their YACon panel lineup in 2020, and Amy was again part of the conference in 2021. Amy was also involved in their COP26 campaign. Zurich are keen to work with Amy in an advisory capacity, reviewing their annual Sustainability Report. She has previously met with Zurich’s Head of Sustainability Linda Freiner and their Group Sustainability Communications Director Heike Mittman, and is working closely with Sean McAllister, Managing Editor of Group Communications at Zurich, going forwards._
_Amy also attended the 2022 One Young World summit as a Z Zurich Foundation (Zurich’s charity arm) scholar._
_Amy and Ella are both involved in the 2022 YACon, which has changed format following the Queen’s passing._
## **Common Seas – Amy**
Amy worked part time for Common Seas during the year 2021 - 2022, taking on the role of Head of Youth Action. The role predominantly involved working on Plastic Clever Schools and its promotion.

## **Partnerships overview**
## **Common Seas**
_Common Seas have partnered with KAP going forwards from 2021 on the Plastic Clever Schools initiative. They have supported development of new resources and a revamp of the Plastic Clever Schools website. Common Seas have also led Plastic Clever Schools outreach into Leicester City._
## **Wastepack**
_Wastepack have been supporters of KAP for years, and have now donated £2000 to the charity to help fund rewards and resources for the KAP Club, as well as the development of a KAP Talks event to showcase youth speakers._
## **Rotary**
_KAP have been working closely with Rotary District 1220 on reaching schools across Nottinghamshire as part of the Plastic Clever Schools initiative. Rotarians locally have been speaking to their local schools about the initiative, and have been providing them with information to sign up. The District Governor, Martyn Bye, that KAP have been working with is continuing his position for another year, and is keen to continue to support KAP. He and his wife also nominated Amy and Ella for the Rotary GB Young Citizens Environmentalist award, which they won in May._
## **Nexus**
_Nexus is an educational supplies company working hard towards a more sustainable business. They are keen supporters of KAP, offering a 27% discount on their refillable glue stick products for any schools that have signed up to the Plastic Clever Schools initiative (making the refillable glue sticks the same price as normal school glue sticks), and are also providing their reps with leaflets outlining KAP activities to be taken into schools._

charity I'the Trust.) for the year ended

Responslbilities and
basis of report
As the charitls trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the
accounts in accordance with thè requirements of the Charities Act 2011
("the Act").
I report in respect of my examinalion of the Trust's accounts carried out
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I
have followed all the applicable Direclions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145{51(b} of the Acl.
Independent
examiner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have
come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that
disclosed below ') which gives me cause to bèlieve that in, any material
respect..
the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130
of the Charities Act; or
the accounts did nol accord with the accounting records., or
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements
concerning Ihe form and content of accounts set out in the Charities
(Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement
that the accounts give a 'true and fair, view which is not a matter
considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concems and have come across no other matters in connection
