‘Al-Asharaf Community Welfare Association’ strongly believes that working together is the only way to succeed. We supported the forming and establishment of ‘Somali Speakers Women’s Group’ in 2000 and have continued to cooperate with them ever since, forming a strong partnership. Likewise, in 2008, we built a solid partnership with ‘Help on Your Doorstep’. We also successfully cooperated and bonded with ‘JAN Trust’ as well as Islington Council’s ‘School Improvement Service’.

Providing relief for those living in Bemerton Estate and the surrounding areas, focusing on ‘ **Health & Wellbeing’** . In particular, but not exclusively, those of ‘Al-Asharaf’ origin, as well as those in need (e.g. elderly, ill health/disabled and those in financial hardships).

After years of closure, we managed to resume using the Jean Stokes Community Centre. We restarted our weekly activities on Saturdays, between 11am-1pm. Among them were:

||We were nominated by Voluntary Action Islington as one of the few<br>organisations that showcased and demonstrated their values under<br>their campaign of ‘**Working for a Fairer Islington**’.<br>Throughout the year, we were supported by the honorary<br>councillors: Paul Covery, Una O'Halloran, and Sara Hyde.<br>Including offering us ‘free-use’ of the Jean Stokes Community Hall.<br>Our volunteers single-handedly cooked and provided lunch for the<br>general public during the Cally Festival.<br>We registered our organisation with an insurance company, with<br>the support of James Barrell (We Are Cally).<br>Our volunteers also organised and ran regular ‘faith-based’<br>celebrations at Finsbury Park Mosque.|

## History: 

1998 – Initially ‘Asharaf Welfare Association’ based in Manor Garden. Then after moving to West Library Hall. After years of community growth, we relocated to Bemerton Children’s Centre, before transferring to Copenhagen Primary School (on Saturdays) 

2008 – Our name was fraudulently stolen by another entity, who tried to tarnish our image 2009 – Subsequently, we ‘rebranded’ to ‘Al-Asharaf Women & Children Association’, before finally changing to ‘Al-Asharaf Community Welfare Association in 2018.
