Training of new incoming officers is provided by Lions Club International District at start of each new term.
Southwold (Sole Bay) Lions Club is a member club of the International association of Lions Clubs through Lions Club International.
The membership of the Club has remained at 13 during the period of this report. However, as most members are of advanced years it is a risk that unless new members can be found the Club may suffer as current members are able to do less. Difficulties are being felt from the declining population of the town and surrounding areas as more properties become second or holiday homes. Although a push to increase the awareness of Lions and increase possible recruitment has not to date resulted in new members, attempts will be made to engage with potential members via social media and the Club website.
Southwold (Sole Bay) Lions Club members were founder members of the Henham Steam Rally in 1974 and the Club has had an association with the event since then. It has been a major fund raiser for the Club. Following a request from the Rally for the Club to give a 5 year commitment to provide volunteers, which members felt unable to give, members voted to withdraw from the organisation and to secure the Club share of any surplus funds, with an offer to continue to provide as many volunteers as possible. Subsequently, and contrary to earlier indications, the offer of volunteers has not been accepted, but the withdrawal process is ongoing, aiming to secure the Club’s share of surplus funds .

| Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
Having had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on Public Benefit. All trustees have now read the guidance document, and it will be ensured that any new trustees will do so. The Club has carried out the following activities this year in respect of the objects of the Club. The scope of activities undertaken this year must be seen against the background of the global COVID-19 Pandemic. Owing to Government legislation regulating social distancing, lockdowns, and because of the vulnerability of some members, Some of the usual events have been have been restricted. The Club Held its annual Music on the Green event in July, when it organises a local band to perform a free open air concert in the centre of Southwold. The Club provides a BBQ and carries out a bucket collection, and this is in aid of our Charity Fund, The event was extremely successful. The Club Held its annual Fete, This year it was held it on 1stMay where May Pole dancing and Morris dancing took place, There was a good number and variety of craft and trade stalls, This was also a very successful event. The following regular events were not able to be held or were restricted: • Southwold Pantomime evening • The Afternoon Tea Dance • Southwold Town Council Xmas Lights, although members were able, with suitable precautions, to erect the lighted crib in Southwold High Street. Club members were able to undertake car parking duties to raise funds by the kindness of the Millennium Foundation, the proceeds being shared with them. Donations were made to a number of causes, including To the Brain tumour research, Haiti Earth quake disaster fund, Tonga appeal and Lions Ukraine appeal. Planning is under way for this years Music on the Green music event. |

You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:
-
policy on grantmaking;
-
policy programme related investment;
-
contribution made by volunteers.
The Club’s policy on grant making is based on how the organisation has carried this out over its 45 year history before becoming a CIO. Applications from the public are heard at normal Club meetings and discussed by all members and Trustees. Based on the merits of the application the Club is invited to propose a sum and vote to accept or reject, counter proposals may also be heard. If the vote achieves a majority approval then it is then ratified by the Trustees and if approved the grant is made by the treasurer to the person or organisation requesting assistance.
Applications for funding from Commercial organisations or for Commercial or for potentially illegal purposes are automatically rejected.
The Club does not at present have any investments.
As the Club comprises of just 13 members it would not be able to function without the contribution of additional volunteers, such as partners and family members at the major fundraising events.
