Reference and administrative information set out on page 1 forms part of this report. The financial statements comply with current statutory requirements, the charity's trust deed and the Statement of Recommended Practice - Accounting and Reporting by Charities: SORP applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with FRS 102. ## **Objectives and activities** The objects of the CIO are: (1) For the advancement of health and the saving of lives of children in England and Wales for the public benefit by raising awareness of road safety issues and making strategic interventions to improve road safety in particular, but not limited to, affecting road use in the vicinity of schools, bus stops, pedestrian crossings, and to contribute to safer routes to schools; (2) For the relief of those in need, by reason of ill-health and disability, including where such illhealth and disability cause financial hardship or other disadvantage to the families affected, in England and Wales for the public benefit, by providing resources such as financial and logistical support to such families to facilitate outings and activities for the siblings of children with additional needs; (3) For the relief of those in need by reason of bereavement through the loss of a child, by providing support and activities to promote wellbeing for families in England and Wales. The activities of the Foundation in this reporting period were impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic, limiting its fundraising and delivery activities and the capacity of the Trustees to deliver the objectives. Planning work was the focus of the Trustees activities. ## **Achievements and performance** In 2021-2022 the charity activities were significantly reduced due to the impact of Covid-19. **£14,906** was brought forward from the previous year, and a total of **£1000** was raised through donations despite there being no major fundraising events. The charity is still in a pilot/test phase of issuing grants via the Ellie days programme - **£335** award was granted to a beneficiary before a full launch to coincide with the major fundraising event EllieFest for July 2022. As the charity was preparing for its major fundraising event in 2022, and incurred some costs towards the costs of the event of **£1775,** which were recouped at the event itself. 4 The charity ended the year with £13,777 funds in the bank. ## **Challenges** The charity has been working to build a fund to deliver the aims, but the pandemic has been an ongoing challenge to fundraising, and capacity of Trustees who have been impacted by school closures and health issues of Trustees. Its been identified that the foundation needs paid administration support to ensure continuity. Plans to develop a charity administrator role as cost effectivity as possible to enable the charity to meet its aims are in development. ## **Progress toward the delivery of objectives** ## **(1) Road Safety Initiative** The Trustees have reviewed this programme and decided to discontinue the association with West Sussex County Council specifically on body-worn cameras initiative as the council were unable to meet commitments. The programme will offer a broader scope of funding for schools to apply to us for to meet specific costs of road safety initiatives to be communicated directly to schools. ## **(2) Ellie Days** The Ellie Days initiative is open for application in a test phase mainly in partnership with Chestnut Tree House. Trustees have received 1 applicant before a full marketing drive has been initiative to raise awareness which was granted, and used as a test case to review how the grant can work. ## **(3) Bereaved family support** This part of the programme is on hold until the Foundation’s capacity is increased. ## **Public benefit** The Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties. The public benefit of the Charity’s activities has been focussed on the raising of funds to support the programme moving forwards. ## **Policy on Grant Making** The ETF grant making policy and criteria around the Ellie days initiative and Schools Road Safety Programme are available on the website here: htps://elliethorntonfoundaton.org.uk/what-we-do/ellie-days/ htps://elliethorntonfoundaton.org.uk/what-we-do/road-safety-initatves/ 5 ## **Contribution of Volunteers** The Trustees have worked in a voluntary capacity for the charity in the year 2021 – 2022. ## **Plans for the future** The major fundraising event EllieFest was scheduled to take place 9th July 2022, and in this report period the Trustees were working to prepare a high quality, successful event as the second major event of the charity to raise funds for its causes. Testing of Ellie Days grant making scheme, and a specific marketing drive with Chestnut Tree House is planned to increase the take up of test awards. Testing the Road Safety Initiatives throughout 2022 into 2023 will enable the Trustees to asses if the scheme meets school’s needs.
