(eg. appointed by, elected by)

## **Additional governance issues (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant, about:

- policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees;

- the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works;

- relationship with any related parties;

- trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them.

## **Trustee appointment**

The trustees are appointed by the Board of Trustees, without restriction on the length of time they may serve the trust.

## **Related Parties**

During the previous year, payments totalling £1,462 were made to My Support & Care Services (West Country) Ltd, of which Lesley Barker is the owner and director – none were made in this current year. The company has kindly subsidised the charity during this period by waiving rents, paying utilities and providing staff. The charity has chosen to make these payments to the company as a contribution towards these costs.

## **Major Risks**

The trustees have considered the major risks facing the charity and taken steps to lessen these risks.

## **Section C Objectives and activities**

- To advance the education of adults and young people with learning difficulties in areas which will increase their employability, social skills and social integration.

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

- The relief of poverty or financial hardship among adults and young people with learning disabilities by the provision of training and advice leading to increased financial capability and independence

- The relief of financial hardship by the recycling and provision of furniture and other household items

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

The majority of the income has derived from shop sales, however the trustees consider the shop to form part of the primary purpose of the charity. As well as learning to repair and upscale items, participants also gain experience in a retail environment and in the administrative tasks associated with running a small enterprise.

The trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17(5) of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Commission.

## Section D Achievements and performance

In this period, the charity has made a cash surplus of £1,036, it has also **Summary of the main** been heavily subsidised in order to do so, with rent, utilities, staff and **achievements of the charity** other costs borne directly by donors. **during the year**

The global Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the charity’s ability to carry on with activities throughout the year, with periods of enforced lockdown resulting in temporary closure. The Trustees have done their best to pause activities during these times in order to minimise costs, restarting activities whenever possible in order to continue to provide this resource to the community and people who rely on it for support. During the period, the trustees consider that, the trust has been able to continue to meet its charitable objectives.

**Section E                    Financial review**

The charity’s reserves policy is to maintain a sufficient level of reserves **Brief statement of the** necessary to generate the income required to run the trust on a day-to- **charity’s policy on reserves** day basis.

This is currently not being met, but the Trustees are seeking new sources of funding, which should help the charity to build sufficient reserves in the future.

**Details of any funds materially** None **in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

Currently the principal source of funds if from items sold through the shop. However, the trustees are currently seeking alternative funding, including grants, to help support it going forward.
