Objectives and Activlties Objects The objects ofthe 8udleigh Syrian Community sponsorship as set in our Con3titutiOD 8re- -to relieve poverty. amonw those seeking asylum and those granted refugee 8tstU8 living in the Budleigh Salterton are8 by provlding. interpretlng Itrdnsl8tlnWadvocacylhe8lthlhousing advice and cultural guidance. 8nd 8ny other e￿iStance required to 81fvance them in lrfe and supportthem to ad8pL settle artd live inoependentlywithin their new community. -to advance the education of the publi¢ in general 8bout the issues relating to refugees and those seeking asylum Strat8glc Objectives To ensure we fulfil our objects W8 designed a year ytrntegy12018-2020) Ithich we extended io date, with four key objectlves:

l. The engage and equip 8uffi¢ient ¢ommunity members to start arMJ 8ucces8fulty wn a Community Sponsorship proje¢t in Budleigh Salterton 2. To raise the funds required to sponsor ￿l￿gee f8miiie8 undarthe Community sponsorship programme 3. To become officially recognised as 8 Communty Sponsorship group bythe Home Office 4. To welcome 8nd support refugee famili8S to settle in the Budleigh Salterton area Actlvltles We have continued with regular 3ession$ & support from CHARIS Support forthe family duringthls period has Included: The family erefully independent now. They are now able to cont8ctthe landlord directlythemselves about any i¥5ues & manage their own tin8nc8s. Their landlord delegated their properties to an outslde organisation who W8nted to in¢re8se the rent beyond wh8twould have been affordable. We negotiated via the S81vation Army and the rent W89 increas8d butto 8 reasonable 8mountthat could bg payable whilst stiu receiving beneffts. W8188 h8s now p8ssed her practical drivingtest. We have suggested various volurrteering opportunitiegfor Mohamad. but none have suited him to dete. He has now p8ssed hi$ GCSE in Maths. Mohamgd has completed online courses in Marketin8 and is keeping up to date with newT8chnologie5 as this is his expertise. He has 8pplied for numerousjobs but hasn't been able to flnd workyet. We have ¢ompleted the required two year support period. We ceiebrnted this in M8y 2024 by h8ving 8 shared me8ltogether in Exeterwtth the Trltstees and 8 couple otvolunteers. We ore continulngto support the family as fri8nd8 as they continue theirtransition to live in the UK. Public Benetit As we planned, implemented and revleN*d the actNities fortheyear. theTrustees considered the Charity Commissions, guidance on public beneftt. The Trustees feelthat we have ensured th8tthe activities undertaken have engaged y￿LIWIth the lxal Gommuntty and pr￿[ded ample opportunities for them to be involved and to le8rn from the activities in line wth our ¢harltsble objects. Volunteers The main support forthe f8mily has come from the core Trustees plus Bri8n Harrls who h8s gNen excellent advice on benefits and liaised with the Job centre. DavKI Wright. 8 friend. has given Mohamad driving PTOCtise. A locsl Syri9n family. who settled in Exmouth fi￿YearS agq under another scheme. who are volunteers with our charity have also given excellent support. 4. Achlevements and Performance In reviewingthe year. the Twstees are pi8a88d thatthe family are making good progress to Settle in Exmouth end to knfe in the UK. The ¢hiidren particularly are thiiwng 8t school 8nd fiourishtng. Zohir is sitting his GCSES this 3ummer and hopes to do engineering 8t Exeter College as the next step. It has been harder forthe parents to learn Engli8h and to beeome fully part of the community. There conlinues to be 8 POSttIV8 rapport amongst the volunteers. We have also been delighted bythe support given ty the schools to the family. There have been a lot of medical issues e3pe¢iallyfot the parents and they have received very good 3UPPOrt from medical per¥onnel. In terms of the second objective of rai8ingthe funds required to sponsor refugee families undei the Communlry Sponsorship Programrne. w8 con$oiid8ted th8 funds 8vailablg and had more than tha minimum £9.000 requirecs bythe Home Office so we did not undertake any m8ior fundraising as we feel hve have sufficient funds 8vailable to support the family. In terms of OUT third objective this w88 fully achivled when ￿ ￿￿ked with CHARIS Os our prlnclp81 spi)nsor. we have bullt an extra18yer of support. information ond back stopping rfthere are any challenges ￿ere we need

additional support. The Project M8n8ger h8d regular sessions with CHARISto share any concerns including tr8um8 counselLing regulorty. Our Tocus for 2025 ha5 been to ¢ontinue to SL8nO alongsidethe lamily and supwrt them blfftile also gradu8lly reducing this 80 they h8ve become more independent. This is beingachiwed. As ourformal re18tionship h85 come to an end we will corrtinue to supportthe family as friends. When they have to move from their Current address, they wlll need help and support to find another property. The Salvtition Army only promised the accommod8tion for two yeors after which they will eventually need the proparty back for the leader of th￿[ hurch in Exmouth. Recent correspondence from the Salvation Amry indicates there is no imminent nece53ity forthem to move. 5. Financlal Revlew The charity ha8 been successful to date in rts fundrdising efforts and now h85 sufficientfundg in place to support the family. A copy ofthe FRS SORP 102 accounts 18 required to be submitted to the Charities Commission included in Annex 1 forfurther information. Pollcy on rg9orve8 The policy of the charty isto retsin £2.000 as a reserve against unforeseen financial circumstances. The trustees eonsiderthis provides an adequate protection against potential issues which might ari$e. These reseNe8 may only be released Wbth the V￿rtten agreement of a simple majorttyofthe trustees.
