– st Trustees Annual Report for 1st January 2023 31 Dec 2023

VAL ALLOTMENT ASSOCIATION NUMBER: 1179814 Charitable Incorporated Organisation

7 Deer Hill Drive Marsden Huddersfield HD76LF

Trustees: Vashti MacLachlan Ama Chaney Tania Susan Gill-Martin

Val Allotment Association has, at the time of writing, 10 members who pay an annual rent for their allotment plot. As a CIO we have a board of Trustees and a management committee. Three committee members take on the officer roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. There is an annual general meeting to which all members are invited and at which one third of the Trustees stand down by rotation and new Trustees are elected or re-appointed. The roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer are re -elected every year.

Over the period since setting up as a CIO we have provided affordable, well-run allotments for those who live in the geographical area of Marsden, as laid out in our charitable objectives.

The allotments have been successfully run in the interests of social welfare, for recreational leisure time occupation and with the objective of improving life for the residents, without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions.

## Achievements over the year 2023

- In 2023 the allotments continued to provide a vital link to the outdoors. The plots were used as a space for exercise and growing food and a vital link to connect with others in a safe outdoor environment.

- The connection with nature the allotments provided over the year has been crucial, and the wildlife and communal areas have continued to be developed and cared for by the members with new paths being laid to improve access to all areas of the site. We continue to care for a wildlife pond with frogs, toads and palmate newts, and a small apple and plum orchard which has now been renovated by the members.

## Financial review

The expenditure of the Association is kept to a minimum - the payment of an insurance premium, rent to the landlord and membership of National Allotment Society are the only regular outgoings. The rent from plot holders covers our expenditure with some surplus. This is used for emergencies or necessities when they arise – e.g., the hiring of skips, purchase or repair of communal tools.

## As of December 31st 2023, we have a balance of £637.42
