7 Deer Hill Drive Marsden Huddersfield HD76LF
Trustees: Vashti MacLachlan Ama Chaney Tania Susan Gill-Martin
Val Allotment Association has, at the time of writing, 10 members who pay an annual rent for their allotment plot. As a CIO we have a board of Trustees and a management committee. Three committee members take on the officer roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. There is an annual general meeting to which all members are invited and at which one third of the Trustees stand down by rotation and new Trustees are elected or re-appointed. The roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer are re -elected every year.
Over the period since setting up as a CIO we have provided affordable, well-run allotments for those who live in the geographical area of Marsden, as laid out in our charitable objectives.
The allotments have been successfully run in the interests of social welfare, for recreational leisure time occupation and with the objective of improving life for the residents, without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions.

Achievements over the year 2022
-
In 2022 the allotments provided a vital link to the outdoors after the lockdowns of the previous years. The plots were used as a space for exercise and growing food and a vital link to connect with others in a safe outdoor environment. We welcomed several new local members who took up plots that others had vacated.
-
The connection with nature the allotments provided over the year has been crucial, and the wildlife and communal areas have been continued to be developed and cared for by the members. This includes a wildlife pond with frogs, toads and palmate newts, and a small apple and plum orchard which has now been renovated by the members.
Financial review
The expenditure of the Association is kept to a minimum - the payment of an insurance premium, rent to the landlord and membership of National Allotment Society are the only regular outgoings. The rent from plot holders covers our expenditure with some surplus. This is used for emergencies or necessities – e.g., the hiring of skips, purchase or repair of communal tools.
