## – Trustees Annual Report for 1st January 2020 31[st] Dec 2020

VAL ALLOTMENT ASSOCIATION NUMBER: 1179814

Charitable Incorporated Organisation

7 Deer Hill Drive

Marsden Huddersfield HD76LF

Trustees: Vashti MacLachlan Simon Lyes Anne Marie Norman Tania Susan Gill-Martin

Val Allotment Association has, at the time of writing, 10 members who pay an annual rent for their allotment plot. As a CIO we have a board of Trustees and a management committee. Three committee members take on the officer roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. There is an annual general meeting to which all members are invited and at which one third of the Trustees stand down by rotation and new Trustees are elected or re-appointed. The roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer are re -elected every year.

Over the period since setting up as a CIO we have provided affordable, well-run allotments for those who live in the geographical area of Marsden, as laid out in our charitable objectives.

The allotments have been successfully run in the interests of social welfare, for recreational leisure time occupation and with the objective of improving life for the residents, without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions.

## Achievements over the year 2020

- Due to Covid-19, 2020 has been an exceptional year. Use of the allotments were restricted during the lockdowns and used as a

space for exercise and growing food and a vital link to connect with others in a safe outdoor environment as the lockdowns eased.

- The connection with nature the allotments provided over the year has been crucial, and the wildlife and communal areas have been developed and cared for by the members, working within Covid restrictions. This includes a wildlife pond with frogs, toads and palmate newts, and a small apple and plum orchard.

## Financial review

The expenditure of the Association is kept to a minimum - the payment of an insurance premium, rent to the landlord and membership of National Allotment Society are the only regular outgoings. The rent from plot holders covers our expenditure with some surplus. This is used for emergencies or necessities – e.g the hiring of skips, purchase or repair of communal tools.

As of December31st 2020, we have a balance of £463.76.

The re -assignment of the original Lease to _Val Allotment Association_ is in the hands of the solicitors and near completion and the fee paid. Covid -19 has slowed this process down, but we hope to complete in 2021.
