To promote for the public benefit the conservation and improvement of the physical and natural environment and the biological diversity of the common lands in the parish of Cricklade. 2. To promote such other charitable purposes under the law of England and Wales for the benefit of the inhabitants of the parish of Cricklade as the trustees shall from time decide March **2012** **TAR** 2 **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** Having regard to the Commission's public benefit guidance when exercising any powers or duties to which the guidance is relevant, we confirm that the Trustees are aware of the guidance, and they have taken it into account when making a decision to which the guidance is relevant. 2023 and the lifting of restrictions enabled the Charity to restart activities on the meadow and the more traditional ceremonies connected to the functions of the Court. As part of the HLF Grant received some years ago a number of courses that had been delayed were held on the meadow and locally which were well attended. Such activities as Scything were taught and various courses on the flora and fauna found on the meadow were held. A number of activities enabled the records on the state of the meadow to be upgraded working along with Natural England and the Floodplain Meadows Partnership. All these focused on Objective 1 of the Charity relating to the Conservation of the meadow to promote the traditional farming methods and increase knowledge of the impact of climate change on the flora and fauna. 2023 was historically significant as King Charles III held his Coronation in June of that year. The Court played a major part in the Town Celebrations, the Court Beacon was lit, and a Commemorative Mug was presented to all children up to the age of 11 attending the local Schools and play groups. The mugs were distributed by the High Bailiff and the Town Crier along with other members of the Court. The Court were able to organise the Beating of the Bounds once more on 10[th] May 2023 which was well attended. This event raised funds for the local Historical Society. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** All activities have been arranged by Court Members/Trustees on a Voluntary basis. Many volunteer hours have been spent working on the meadow and in arranging courses and also arranging Beacon Lighting and ceremonial duties. The Town Crier, another voluntary role, has been active most Saturdays in the High Street. You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. March **2012** **TAR** 3 ## Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** We are responsible for managing the grazing on North Meadow from 12[th] August to 12[th] February and the Court Members commit many volunteer hours per annum to this task. We work with the graziers, carry out daily checks as well as installing, maintaining, and removing 2.5km of electric fencing and 8 pasture pumps. In addition, our volunteer wardens monitor North Meadow and work with Natural England to resolve any management issues. As a part of the funding received from the Heritage Lottery Fund work progressed on the areas that had been delayed by Covid particularly the courses highlighted in the application (Scything, Moths and Butterflies)) and on better signage and information trail at the meadow. Once again the period of time the meadow was under water delayed many of the planned projects and reduced the time the meadow was grazed. Donations were made to the Royal British Legion as part of our civic role and associated activities. The Cricklade Court Website and Facebook pages continue to be updated and contain much more information about the meadow and public access. http://www.crickladecourtleet.org.uk/ March **2012** **TAR** 4 ## **Section E Financial review** Following the award of the Heritage Lottery Grant our reserves remain **Brief statement of the** high but have reduced from previous years and are not a cause for **charity’s policy on reserves** concern. The project is continuing with regular reports and updates provided to the Heritage Lottery Fund and lottery money is ring fenced against future spend.
