Overview
2022-2023 saw a slow return to a new normality after COVID had disrupted activity across the sector.
The centre has been open as a youth hub since March 1[st] 2022 and has continued to increase activity and community engagement.
It continues to be used by up to 50 young people on Tuesday to Thursday evenings. The feedback from young people and the community has been extremely positive. The centre is used by multi-agency organisations to assist with your work in the morning and The William Mills Foundation has access to it in the afternoons, for delivery of our Programmes.
The William Mills Silver Ball was held on Will’s 25[th] Birthday on 22[nd] October 2022 and saw 120 supporters come together. We also hosted a golf tournament at Bewdley Pines Golf Club on May 6th 2023 and held a 5-a-side tournament in conjunction with Rock Sports Football Club on June 17[th] 2023.
Both these events, and the centre launch were supported and attended by our supporters locally, and from across the UK. This included encouraging supporters who had previously not attended and donated to events.
The Foundation was also supported by people who undertook individual challenges to fund raise for the Foundation. These included: Rory & Arran Gulliver summited Mont Blanc – July 2022 Daniel Mills – Running an ultra marathon Katherine Pearson – Running the London Marathon
Our awards made were to support young people with SEND, looked after young people and homeless 16-18 year olds.
Please refer to Appendix D: Trustees’ Financial Report 2022/202 Our aims for the year were:
-
To extend sessions and delivery within The William Mills Centre
-
To increase our activity with young people
-
To reinstate our fundraising events.
We achieved objective 1 .
Objective 2 was achieved.
We achieved objective 3.

Our volunteers have continued to show wonderful support in undertaking individual events and increasing donations. In addition, we have kept our running costs as low as last year’s levels.
This allows us to end the year in a healthy financial position for a charity of our size and longevity, and confident that we will remain resilient and able to operate in the years ahead and in a post-COVID-19 environment.

The Mindful Tribe Wyre Forest
The Mindful Tribe page has been up and running since April 1[st] 2020. We have 42 members on the page. They receive a live zoom yoga session every month plus advice on mindful practice. All members can access every session numerous times, as well as on the live session as they are kept posted on the page. We have dip sampled the sessions and they have built wonderfully from beginners to really different styles. The yoga instructor is patient and gives modifications all the way through. The members tend to be shy to engage but are definitely using the resources.
I have sought feedback from the members and received the below comment, notably from parents:
"My daughters & wife have done the sessions together each week - lots of giggles & creaking joints, but they have enjoyed working together! Thank you for this opportunity."
"Hi, my daughter completed the box breathing yoga class to help with anxiety. She has used the method that this class taught several times to help control her worries and to help her stay calm when she has started to panic. It has been super useful and is something I know she will continue to use throughout her life. Thank you x”
We intend keeping this Facebook during COVID-19, so into our next financial year, as we have limited means in which we can actively support young people with face-to-face sessions.
Future Steps Awards are made to individual young people. These awards are made upon recommendation for young people who have potential shown in relation to a particular skill or life skill, but something within their life presents a barrier to their development or achievement. Generally, these awards are up to £250.
We have made four awards, relevant to this annual report since July 2022. The awards made have allowed two young people to attend and compete in National Athletics championships in Manchester.
Each young person awarded has some barrier or difficulty. Some of these are physical, some emotional and some practical. They may be caused by illness, disability, family breakdown or bereavement, for example. We use the knowledge and expertise of school staff to nominate young people for our awards.
We evaluate the effectiveness of our awards by asking the young people what they think they will achieve and why this will help them in their future life. We then set timelines for this feedback. The young people are then also seen and spoken to at some point during their award pathway by trustees from The WMF to assess progress towards these goals.
The Future Steps Programme did not operate in FY2022-2023.
