3.1 The objects of the CIO are for the benefit of Ihe wblic, lo:
3.1.1 advance education, in particular by enhancing the understanding
of the history and horticultural legacy of James Backhouse with
particular reference to the former nursery and gardens situated at Wesl
Bank Park.. to promote engagement with this heritage., to research the
history of the site and its horticultural legacy more generally,.
3.1.2 preserve and conserve the remains of the Lixlge at West Bank
Park and the horticultural heritage of West Bank Park.,
3.1.3 promote an understsnding of horticulture by providing a
sustainable
community space for people of all ages to come tojelher, share
krK)wledge and skills and engage with horticulture,. and
3.1.4 to benefit the resdents of York, without distincts'on of sex, sexual
orientstion. race (w of txyitical. religious or other opinions by
associating
together the said residents in a common effort to provide facilities, in
the interests of sccial welfare,for recreation and other leisure time
occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the
residents.

Wrth no active webgie ￿ social media during this time, it has been the
10 archive films which have I￿n useful to continue any interest in the
project.
A showreel which was created in 2023 gave an ouljine of work
undertaken between 2013 and 2023. This has been a useful lool rf
needed to show what the group had achieved lo date.
(Reminder in Juw 2021 Tony Lambert Great. Great. Great Grandson
of James Backhouse was finally able to travel from Auckland to visit the
UK. We were also able to interview Tony for a second time and also lo
reunite him with the scrap1￿k which had been in safe keeping with Ihe
Trust. The sCrap1￿k had already been digib'sed by the British Library
and also annotated and preseNed by a conseNator working with the
trust).

Wrth the continued disruption at the British Library (due lo previous
year cyberattack - see last year's TARI where the Scrapbook was
digitised, we have h￿1 no further development.
Any interest in the work of the group has now scaled down.
Individual interest in the various areas of study have been continued,
h¢)wever this has been on a Ftrsonal basis, eg interest in the
horticulture, trees, and so on. st￿ has been slow and steady.
