Trustee Annual Report 2024
Fundraising and Donations
Fundraising has continued successfully throughout 2024 using multiple platforms. We utilise Givey as our UK fundraising platform, Facebook Donate (which pays through PayPal), PayPal Donate, and our online shop (PayPal). We also accept direct donations into our UK CAF bank account.
PayPal Donate has enabled us to establish monthly recurring donations, which we continue to encourage as a sustainable source of income.
We have recently acquired a card reading machine for taking card payments at markets.
Financial Transfers and Compliance
Funds have been transferred directly to our beneficiaries via international bank transfers. We have retained our gambling licence, allowing us to legally hold raffles.
Awards and Recognition
Blankets for Baby Rhinos (BFBR) continues to be a successful and respected charity. We are proud to have won the Leopard Award for the sixth consecutive year , awarded by SANParks Honorary Rangers, in recognition of our contribution to Project Watchdog .

In addition, we provided specific assistance to Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for the treatment of poisoned vultures.
Project Rhino and Tracking Dog Sam
BFBR part-funded a tracking dog, Sam, for Project Rhino in KwaZulu-Natal . Unfortunately, Project Rhino did not feel that Sam performed to the required standard and he was returned to Luna Hounds. We were dissatisfied with both the condition in which Sam was returned and the inadequate record-keeping and communication from Project Rhino.
As a result, BFBR will no longer support Project Rhino. We hope that Sam can be redeployed elsewhere once his health and wellbeing have been fully addressed.
SANParks K9 Unit – Project Watchdog
We have continued our ongoing support of the SANParks K9 Unit through Project Watchdog. This support included:

Purchase of two new tracking dogs for Kruger National Park

Equipment for dog handlers

Veterinary treatment for two sick tracking dogs

Construction of new kennels in the north of the park

Donation and transport of a large box of Kong toys for the dogs

Support for the rangers’ year-end function, which is vital for morale
Our SANParks K9 Emergency Fund was used to cover veterinary costs for tracking dogs Hercules and Charlie.
African Wildlife Vets Emergency Fund
The African Wildlife Vets emergency fund was utilised for:

Snare removals

Ear notching and dehorning of rhinos

Relocation and collaring of leopards and lions
Transport and Logistics
Transport of blankets and other essential items has been greatly supported through our collaboration with KLM Charity – Wings for Animals , who regularly fly donated items to South Africa on our behalf.
Trustees and Supporters
Two new trustees joined BFBR in 2024:

Paul Sharman (UK) , who has been highly active in fundraising and donated towards a third tracking dog through his company, Longworth Forensics.

Marina Turion (Netherlands) , who also joined as a trustee and generously left a legacy to fund one of the tracking dogs.
We would also like to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our supporters:

Linda Grave , who has been instrumental in providing football kits for Kruger Park rangers, their families, and local communities.

Elizabeth Conroy , who continues to run our online shop, attend local markets, and organise tombolas.

Liz Brown , who runs her online craft shop Creations for Rhinos , donating all profits to BFBR.
Conclusion
We are extremely pleased with how the charity is operating, both in terms of fundraising and the resumed transport of blankets and essential goods to South Africa via our dedicated volunteers. BFBR remains committed to supporting wildlife conservation and those on the front line protecting endangered species.
