## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT 2025** The Saltdean Residents' & Community Association (SRCA) was renamed in December 2025, when the existing Saltdean Community Association charity (founded in the 1960s) and the non-profit Saltdean Residents Association (founded in 1934) were united, with a common membership and a single democratically elected committee, to provide a unified and stronger voice for the residents of East and West Saltdean. The SRCA continues its charitable activities, while the SRA continues to serve the community on other ways. Our purpose is to make Saltdean an even better place to live and work. We achieve this through grassroots initiatives, community events, and collaborative projects that enhance the quality of life for everyone who calls Saltdean home. ## **Our Activities in 2025** During 2025, the SRCA delivered a range of projects and initiatives that directly benefited the local community: **Community Spaces and Infrastructure** We commissioned and funded the installation of new planters along Lustrells Vale, enhancing the local streetscape. We also refurbished the benches at Harmony Garden to the south of Oval Park, improving this much-loved green space for residents. **Community Beach Chalet** We continued to allow Saltdean Residents to book our community beach chalet for the day providing free access to the seafront and supporting community connection to our coastal environment. The chalet was pretty much fully booked throughout the warmer months enabling several hundred residents to benefit from this asset. **Community Events** We sponsored two popular annual events: Picnic in the Park and Saltdean Swims @ The Lido, both of which bring residents together and celebrate what makes Saltdean a special place to live. **Local Democracy and Advocacy** We organised a community meeting to discuss the Government's reorganisation of local councils, ensuring residents were able to hear first hand from the leaders of Brighton and Hove City Council and East Sussex County Council and had a forum to share their views on issues that directly affect their lives and representation. **Environmental Stewardship** We made a donation to Saltdean's Bird and Gull Rescue Project, supporting local wildlife care and environmental wellbeing. ## **Looking Ahead: Plans for 2026** The SRCA has begun on its ambitious programme of work for 2026, reflecting the breadth of community needs and opportunities in Saltdean: - **Regenerating Longridge Avenue** – working with local businesses to improve the street's appearance, applying for grants for new planters and infrastructure, and maintaining existing SRCA-owned planters. The Saltdean Residents’ & Community Association is a charity, UK Reg. 1179749 Registered address 94 Rodmell Avenue, Saltdean BN2 8PJ www.saltdeanonline.org.uk saltdeancommunitycharity@gmail.com - **Friends of Saltdean's Oval Park** – identifying volunteers to help deliver improvements to this much-used green space, including new planting, seating, CCTV, and lighting – from early 2026. - **Pebble Dashers** – launching a new volunteer group in February 2026 to regularly clear the undercliff and promenade of stones and debris, keeping the seafront safe and accessible. - **Saltdean Community Hub, Foodbank and Library of Things** – exploring options to lease a permanent community space to provide a stable home for the Food Bank (currently operating from a trustee's home) and to establish a Library of Things, allowing residents to borrow occasional-use tools and equipment. - **Bringing the Empty Building Next to The Saltdean Tavern Back to Life** – engaging with Mitchells and Butlers, owners of the building which has stood empty for 20 years, to explore options for community or commercial use. - **Community Events** – expanding the programme of events in Saltdean, building on the success of the Picnic in the Park and Saltdean Swims. - **Saltdean in Bloom** – coordinating volunteers to plant and maintain hanging baskets, railing baskets, and planters along Longridge Avenue and Lustrells Vale. - **Improving communications with residents** – we plan to regularly communicate with all residents (not just members) through regular newsletters and social media (first newsletter in March 2026) ## **Membership and Governance** The SRCA is governed by a committee of elected trustees. Members receive voting rights at general meetings, priority access to the community beach chalet, and access to advice on local community issues. We are grateful to all residents who have supported the charity through membership and volunteering.
