Membership
Saltdean Resident’s Association (SRA) is an affiliated organisation and as such all members of the SRA are automatically affiliated members of the SCA with full voting rights.
Membership is open to all adults over 18 years old .
Saltdean Community Hall
With the major redevelopment of Saltdean Lido Building starting in November 2021, the Trustees of the SCA relinquished their occupancy of the Lower Community Hall . The final clearance was completed with the piano and other items considered as important being placed in storage.
Public usage of the Hall was virtually impossible during 2021 due to a water leakage in the upper floor and difficulties with electricity supplies and alarms.
Towards the end of 2021 Brighton and Hove City Council offered the SCA a Beach Chalet on Saltdean Undercliff when the Trustees happily accepted.
This has allowed us to have a social meeting space whilst the work on the Lido Building is being carried out.
The intention being to share the opportunity to use the Beach Chalet with the residents of Saltdean. The Licence is for 5 years and the Trustees are hoping to return to the Lido Community Hall in Autumn 2023.
Beneficiaries
The Trustees have encouraged as wide a range of community activities as possible across all ages and sectors of the community we offer the Hall free of charge or at reduced rates to encourage usage and to provide opportunities for the Community to meet. In previous years there have been at least 15 regular user groups and the Hall is heavily used. We have hosted disabled, senior citizens, children and people with interests in art, music, wellbeing, local history, drama as well as being a venue for community meetings including Neighbourhood Watch, Saltdean Residents’ Association and Local Action Team.
The Trustees have supported other Charities and Not for Profit Groups, fundraisers for local good causes are regularly held free of charge at the Community Hall. Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company and Saltdean and Rottingdean Youth Club are beneficiaries of grants and have been supported by the Charity.
Local History talks and a celebration with music and a high tea was held to give thanks for the life of Evelyn George our past President .
Our Charity took on Community outreach work for the neighbouring area, fulfilling the Charity objectives beyond Saltdean . We hosted “A Day at the Seaside” for inner city
Brighton and Hove children and their families and an after school tea and sea event for children with Brighton Tennis Club.
The Trustees intend to continue this initiative.
