Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | The protection of the environment by returning land back into woodlands; the expansion of existing woodland; and the retaining of woodland for the benefit of future generations |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
The UK National Ecosystem Assessment (2010) notes that woodlands provide perhaps the highest level of ecosystem services including regulating climate, air quality, water flows, providing timber and wood products as well as a number of cultural benefits. On land held by the CWF, members of the public or businesses will be invited to use the land for supervised activities such as woodland care courses and orienteering. Creating and running these woodland care courses on the CWF land ensures that there will be a public element to the conservation of the woodlands and habitats of the local wildlife. Visitors will be shown how to: clear the forest floor from overcrowding of saplings and dead plant matter for the benefit of the maturing trees; how to use these cuttings and waste products to create friendly habitats for insects or for the creation of composts for future planting; how to care for existing trees and basic tree surgery. Members of the public will be invited to use CWF land for free recreational purposes, picnicking, camping and bird watching etc. (where safe and appropriate). |
Statement confirming Para 1.18 Confirmed whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit
