Message from the Chief Executive Trustee

This year marked our 6th anniversary, a milestone we’re incredibly proud of. Despite operating with fewer resources, the demand for our services has continued to rise. Now, more than ever, we must look ahead and safeguard our long ‑ term sustainability.

About the Pet foodbank Service

Our vision and values

keeping pets at home.

The relief of poverty - With the aim of breaking the poverty cycle of people sharing their human food with their pets, causing the owners to suffer from malnutrition.

The relief of mental anguish of being unable to afford to feed their pet or worse having to give up their companion to a shelter.

Our deep passion for animals comes from years of rescue work. We understand that financial hardships can arise, but we believe pets should stay with their families whenever possible, rather than end up in overcrowded shelters. With many lockdown pets now being surrendered, shelters are struggling, and responsible adoptions have declined. Sadly, not all animals find safe new homes—some are abandoned or face even worse fates. We are committed to ensuring no pet goes hungry and that owners have the support they need to care for their beloved animals.

This year marked our 6th anniversary,

and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone.

The Nearly Wild Show returned once again, and as always, everyone absolutely loved it. It managed to be both wonderfully entertaining and surprisingly educational at the same time.

Its a birthday so there had to be cake!

We couldn’t eat cake without involving our furry friends with pup cakes

Pet food donations

We could barely keep up with the generous amount of pet food being donated, and we even had to bring in extra volunteers just to stay on top of it all.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we were able to supply even more outlets, though it did create a few challenges with delivery logistics. Since none of our volunteers were willing to drive the van, we could only take on new outlets that were able to collect directly from the warehouse. In the end, that actually worked out much better for us and kept everything running smoothly.

We purchased roll cages to help us rotate the larger bags of dog food more efficiently and to make it easier to move pet food from the van to the shelves.

Volunteering

Our wonderful volunteers generously dedicated an incredible 1,491 hours of their time to support their community. We also had corporate volunteers via Neighbourly, which included staff from Admiral and Johnston's. Our volunteers had some incredible fun along the way.

The Pet Food Bank Service, has been a godsend for someone like me. Being chronically ill and disabled, meeting people in an atmosphere that is welcoming and understanding is almost impossible. They welcomed me with opened arms and accept I can’t do huge amount sometimes, but I’m welcome none the less. I’ve made more friends since I started volunteering than I have in the last 5 years of being alone and isolated. Every one of all abilities is welcomed. I feel a huge sense of achievement if I’ve done something to help others, and this allows me to do so in a non-judgemental way. My own mental health has hugely improved because I’m not stuck at home alone , I feel I can give back , in my small way and the scope of things I can achieve are growing , giving me my pride, self-esteem and feeling of worth I’ve been missing a very long time.

7

Recycling

This year we have diverted 5.9 ton of clothes, pet and household items from landfill.

We currently recycle the following:

Gifting items we couldn’t sell via our ever expanding free pile, items which might need a clean, a stich or upcycling, anything to keep them out of landfill.

To reduce our carbon footprint, we always aim to combine deliveries and collections on the same route whenever possible.

We continue to look for ways to increase our recycling and reduce our carbon footprint.

8

Finances

Unfortunately, grant funding has become increasingly scarce, with far greater competition for every opportunity as the cost of living crisis continues to impact communities and charities alike. In light of this, the trustees have made the decision

to focus on developing our own more reliable revenue streams. This will include expanding ‑ our community pop up shop and increasing our online sales through platforms such as eBay (www.ebay.co.uk/usr/petfoodbank) and Vinted (www.vinted.co.uk/member/268756093)

Our impact

By working together with food banks as our outlets we have been able to:

Expand to 31 outlets spread across South Wales.

Distributed 157,168 pet meals through these outlets.

1,491 hours volunteered

Recycled 5.9 tonne of items destined for landfill

Created a pet-friendly venue that welcomes volunteers and the public to bring their dogs.

We were delighted to host Hope Rescue, who offered free vet checks and ‑ dog care advice, something our service users truly appreciated. Because the appointments were spaced out, dogs who are a little less comfortable around others, and who often struggle in busy vet settings, were able to attend calmly and stress‑free

Pet food all created up, ready to be loaded onto the van and delivered.

Our goals for 2025 - 2026

Our objectives for the financial year 2024 - 2025 are largely unchanged:

Enhance the visibility of our charity.
