Message from the Chief Executive Trustee
This year marked our 5th anniversary, where we initiated our community pop-up shops and expanded our outlets. While we've been operating with fewer resources, the demand for our services has grown significantly. Now, more than ever, we must focus on the future and ensure our long-term sustainability.

About the Pet foodbank Service
Our vision and values
keeping pets at home.
The relief of poverty - With the aim of breaking the poverty cycle of people sharing their human food with their pets, causing the owners to suffer from malnutrition.
The relief of mental anguish of being unable to afford to feed their pet or worse having to give up their companion to a shelter.
Our deep passion for animals comes from years of rescue work. We understand that financial hardships can arise, but we believe pets should stay with their families whenever possible, rather than end up in overcrowded shelters. With many lockdown pets now being surrendered, shelters are struggling, and responsible adoptions have declined. Sadly, not all animals find safe new homes—some are abandoned or face even worse fates. We are committed to ensuring no pet goes hungry and that owners have the support they need to care for their beloved animals.

This year marks our 5th anniversary,
and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone.
Our volunteers who helped make our day extra special.
Birthday cake was a must-have!
We couldn't forget about our furry VIPs, so we arranged for doggy cake and pup cupcakes to be specially made.
We also served hot dogs, popcorn, and cotton floss.
We made some new friends.
The Nearly Wild Show graciously brought some of their pets for us to meet and discover more about.
Some of the bravest individuals among us personally encountered the pets.
This free show captivated audiences of all ages. The Nearly Wild team provided engaging and informative insights about animals and responsible care, answering numerous questions in a clear and accessible way.
Volunteering opportunities
The amazing women from Ace - Action in Ely and Caerau, who are one of our outlets, generously volunteered to assist us for the day. This way, they could both help us and gain insight into our operations and the process of providing them with pet food.
We have been able to offer corportate volunteer days via Neigbourly.
Our volunteers have been expanding their comfort zones and attending events in our communities. They every much enjoyed their days out and engaging the local community.
Here’s what our volunteers have to say about volunteering for us
Kim
“ I really enjoy volunteering for PFBS. I have met lovely volunteers (who I now consider as friends) in addition to feeling that I am helping other people who may be struggling. I have also met a lot of lovely customer through the pop up shop and hearing some of their stories makes me far more appreciative of what I have got I would highly recommend getting involved.”
Sue
“ Volunteering!! Most definitely. Have made new friends with laughter along the way as well as giving to your community. The pop up shop gives us the opportunity to meet customers and some of their four legged companions here at the PFBS.”
Karen
“ It’s the social interaction with likeminded, friendly volunteer colleagues, while doing something positive to help provide for those who are going through a difficult time. I fully recommend volunteering to anyone who lives alone.”
Our first step towards financial independace
Community pop-up shop
We have been able to support our community members facing poverty with dignity by offering new and second-hand pet and household items at lower prices than typical charity shops. This initiative helps cover the Pet Foodbank Service's costs, increases awareness of our work, and promotes a circular community economy.
People have come to us in need of affordable essential pet safety items such as leads, collars or pet carriers to safely transport their pets to the vet.
Raffles
we have also been able to start doing raffles during our community pop up shops, helping us to raise even more much needed funds.
What our customers say:
“I have recently bought a travel cot and a high chair from a previous pop up shop and couldn’t be more happier with them, you really are an amazing charity that has helped so many people during these tough financial times, you really are amazing 😊”
“Absolutely amazing ladies thank you so much from all of those I help and my own zoo”
Recycling
This year we have diverted 3.8 ton of clothes, pet and household items from landfill.
We offer items for free to keep them out of landfill—sometimes, all they need is a wash or a few stitches. One teddy in particular caught a young boy’s eye. He was sad that no one wanted it, so he took it to his Nan for some emergency repairs. Now, that teddy has a loving home, a wonderful backstory, and has even traveled with the boy to Paris!
We currently recycle the following:
-
Plastic bottles
-
Cans Cardboard Paper Soft plastics Wood Scrap metal Clothes and fabrics
-
Small electrical items
-
Coffee grounds Unwanted, short dated or out of date pet food
To reduce our carbon footprint, we always aim to combine deliveries and collections on the same route whenever possible.
We are always looking for ways to increase our recycling and reduce our carbon footprint.
