## **Message from the Chief Executive Trustee** 

I’d like to take this chance to address last year’s abysmal and late accounts. 

It was a manic year due to Covid and I had prioritized getting the pet food to the outlets and helping as many people as I could, the accounts were not deemed a priority and they should have been. Although I can account for every penny it the information wasn’t correctly correlated and the data should have been better recorded. 

Also I had forgotten to inform the account that I had prepaid my credit card to allow the charity to purchase a shipping container unseen due to lockdown and to utilize the credit cards protection should any problems arise. Unfortunately, the card declined due to an unusual purchase, so I had to use the charity’s debit card. 

Also I completely under estimated how long it would take to find an account (1 month) and how long (3 months) that it would take them to complete the accounts. 

So to rectify this and to reassure every one that in future the accounts will be spot on, I have put in place the following: 

·Attended a finance course (and will be attending a further finance course shortly). 

·Have set a practise of monthly updates and reviews of our accounts to ensure they are always up to date. 

·Implemented a no receipt no payment protocol. 

·A fixed assets policy 

·A reserves policy 

·A Managing funds and keeping them safe policy. 

With regards of not meeting last year’s objects of finding a dry cat food supplier and a venue it is due to Covid and the Cost of living crisis both of which have pushed the charity into trying to provide as many pet meals as possible to meet massively rising demands.

## **Our vision and values** 

The relief of poverty - With the aim of breaking the poverty cycle of people sharing their human food with their pets, causing the owners to suffer from malnutrition. 

The relief of mental anguish of being unable to afford to feed their pet or worse having to give up their companion to a shelter. 

We are passionate about pets and have worked in animal rescue for many years, we understand that sometimes people can suffer a financial crisis. 

We believe every pet should stay with their family and not have to go into animal rescue centres through no fault of their own. 

Due to people giving up lockdown pets the shelters are full and it is difficult for them to find room for more pets in a time where responsible people aren’t currently adopting due to uncertain times. Also, not everyone responsibly re-home their animals, a great many will simply be dumped or worse. 

We firmly believe no pet should go hungry, nor should their owners go without food to provide for their pets.

## **About the Pet foodbank service** 


I’m often asked why did I decide to start a pet foodbank, you might think the answer is because there is a need for this type of help, but that’s not why. 

I was chatting with a friend who was a fellow dog rescuer/animal lover, and the conversation turned to old pets having to be put in shelters because some older people were facing the heat/eating problems and they were feeding their pets before themselves, which is terrible enough, but my friend explained that older pets were staying in shelters for too long as everyone wanted puppies, some would even end their days there. Which got me thinking about those poor older pets, who have had their cosy life and their person or people are taken away from them through no fault of their own. It just didn’t seem fair or right! Nor was it fair that people had to give up their beloved companions, sometimes their only friend. 

So this is why the pet foodbank service was born. I quickly realized that this problem was not only being faced by pensioners alone. So the decision was made to help as many pet owners keep their pets as possible.

## **Our outlets** 

We started with 4 outlets and added another 4, 

Ace in Cardiff 

Bargoed hub in Bargoed 

Gilfach Goch Community Association in Gilfach goch Loaves and Fishes in Merthyr.

## **Expanding our storage** 



We purchased a shipping container 

It was full as soon as we built it 


Hope rescue contacted us to donate their unwanted excess pet food and pet items 


We had to purchase another shipping container as food as arriving faster than we could redistribute it!

## **Our goals for 2022 - 2023** 


Cat treats kindly donated by Lillys 

2,500 tins of dog food kindly donated by Butchers. 


Our plans from 2020 - 2021 were simple find a regular supply of cat food, a premise's to call home and raise our profile. 

To be fair none of this was achievable this year due to the cost of living crisis need for our service shot up and our workload became unsustainable and pet food was coming in faster than one person could process it and redistribute it. Sadly s during the summer heat wave resulted in us having to turn down 3 large donation due to a lack of storage as the food could not be stored in the shipping containers as they reached 45 degrees, all of the stock had to be stored at a Trustees house. 

So our goals for the financial year 2022 - 2023 remain all most the same: 

Find a regular supply of cat food 

A premises 

Volunteers to help with the work load Raise our charities profile.
