Morpeth Bridge Club is an affiliated club of the North East Bridge Association and the English Bridge Union. Its’ purpose is ‘the advancement of amateur sport by promoting the game of bridge for the benefit of the residents of Morpeth and the surrounding area’.

It has only recently received Charitable Status and this is the clubs first submission.

The club meet on a Monday evening at St James Community Hall, Morpeth, to play Face to Face (F2F) bridge. The club also runs an online tournament takes place (Bridge Base Online) on a Wednesday evening. Table money for F2F is £2.50 for members and $3 for the online platform.

Trustees’ meetings are arranged four times each year in addition to the AGM. Minutes of these meeting are published on the clubs’ website. Trophies are awarded at the AGM.

Morpeth Bridge Club continues to play bridge face to face every Monday and on-line on Wednesdays for those who prefer to play at home. Monday club night numbers were static at 9 tables (36 players) compared to the previous year. On-line number also have remined static at 4-5 tables despite canvassing for new members from local non-English Bridge Union (EBU) clubs in the area.

The Club is well known as being a very friendly and welcoming. Recently, a group of overseas visitors have remarked how much they enjoyed their visit.

In the annual ‘Team of 8’ competition comprising of EBU affiliated clubs in Northumberland, Durham and Teesside, the team retained their position in the top division.

Bridge lessons continue and are very popular and we hope to be welcoming new players in the future.
