Morpeth Bridge Club continued playing bridge online until September 2021 due to the risk of contracting the Coronavirus. The committee carried out an in depth risk assessment and put in place numerous safeguarding measures for when we opened for face to face bridge on the 13th September 2021. Initially there were 4/5 tables playing but this has increased gradually as the weeks went by and we are now achieving 7/8 tables playing f2f on a Monday evening. It is expected that this number will slowly rise but it is not anticipated that we will achieve the 12/14 tables that we had pre-covid. In addition, we decided to keep an online session on a Wednesday for those members who do not like to travel in the evening or prefer to play from home. This too has proved successful.
The inter-club teams event has also resumed and Morpeth Bridge Club has entered one team. The matches are played face to face at various venues and relevant safeguards are observed.
Bridge classes continue to take place for those who want to start playing and also for those who just want to improve their game. Everyone is delighted that things are beginning to return to normal after the lockdown and are so very pleased to see their friends again after so long.
