In January 2022 wewere approached bythe Hartwell Group with a request to merye with Meetings were held

This is a separate set￿p operatinE on a Thursday aftern(￿ at Animal Antiks. This ts a charity based in North
Marston providing animal assisted leamin8 for people with learning disabilities and mental health issues.
Riding takes place at the venue on Thursday afternoons after school during temi time using a 15.2hh cob and the
option of using a smaller pony should the need arise. They currently accommodate two riders from Stocklake Park
Secondary School, a 14-yeèr-old youn8 lady and an 11-year-old young man.
Due to circumstance5 Iwond our control riding at Bye Green had to be discontlnued. We were fortunate to be
offerèd a new venue at Flamstead Yard in Ashley Green. This facillty contains both indoor and outdoor arenas. As
a result pf time needed to set up thi5 operation rtding dÉd start in this temi untll November 2022.
All riding is undertaken on Friday afternoons durirE sthool temi time and eonsists of 4 half hour sessions usire 3
ponies each session.
The first group comes from the Special N&s unit at the William Harding Sthool in Aylesbury which supports
chiklren with physical and soaal needs as well as learning difficultie&
The Group is fortunateto hold a warting list of children wishingto benefftfrom ourfacility and comesfrom parents
who think their thildren would enjoy riding. These children have a range of conditions including ASD, Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy* cerebral palsy, Red Syndrome, and global development delay.
As always due diligen￿ is given to the health and safety of the children. parents Ca￿r$ and volunteers.
The Trustees remain loyal to the undertying ethos of the Group. Riding has for many years been seen as very
benefiaal to children with these and other conditK)ns. It helps with core musde tone. concentration. the ability
to tske instruction as well as KKial and learn1r￿ skills. Disabiltycan be physical andlor emotional and riding helps
to overcome shyness by interaction with horses as well as introducing an element of competition. Riders are
taught all elements of riding ineludinB tacl equine hygiene, ènd safety.
To provide these artivities p)nies are rented from the ridingschool in Flamstead Yard, Ashley Green. These ponies
are ideal as they are all quiet and well behaved and are not disturbed by ? novice rider whose movements can
become unpredictable. Children are allocatsd to their pony based on height. weight. and their condition. The
me¢hanical hor* is used when a rider ts very ner¥(xts and helps to show the gentle horse movement prior to
them joining in the artive 5e55ion. All ￿1n￿9 have a maxlmum wei8ht limit on their back, so children are re8ularly
weighed so as not to injure the ponv.
All volunteers join the Group through an appI￿atiOn that uses an official application form which include
referen￿5 which are amiays followEd up. Once this Stage has been completed a full DBS ￿rtIfIcate is obtained.
Ill the main the volunteers have a bKkground with horses either by riding or owning their own. Within the
volunteer group are a number of coaches who manage eady sesslon t*)th inside and outside the arena. These
coaches maintain theirstatU5 through re8ulartrainin8 and assessment given by regionallcounty coaches. The DBS
certificate lasts for 3 years and is renewed as required.
Every Session has a leader of the pony and two slde walker5 VAK) are reswn5ible for the 54fety of each child.
Withln the targe group of volunteers are those restx)nsible for health and safety. first aid and safeguardlng. The '
group ha5 a Se55ion and a Venue Risk As*ssment schedule that are regularly monitored and reviewed annually.
This charity is grateful forthe support of the volunteers as without them this important work could not continue.
