The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements of the charity for the
year I january 2025 to 31 Oecember 2025.
Ob'ectives and Actlvlties
The main activity in 2025 was to advance education for the public benefit by assisting Massey
University in its education and research objectives. Thls was achieved by fundraising for gifts
intended for student scholarships and academic research.
In Carrylng out the oblectlves of the charity, the trustees granted £3.52412024= £25.0001 to Student
scholarships and the Vet Teaching Hospital at Massey University.
Publlc benefit
The Trustees have taken regard of the public benefit guidance provided by the Charities
Commission. UK Friends of Massey had charitable purposes for the public benefit in the year en¢Jing
31st December 2025 because-

tertiary educational institution.
lil The benefits to the public are clear and include the education of students and the free
dissemination of research results.
iiil These benefit5 are related to the aim5 of UK Friends of Massey and include -advancing education
for the public benefit by assisting Massey University in its education and research oblertlves.~
Iv) There are no obvious detriments or harms resulting from the activities of the educational
in5titution5 that UK Friends of Massey support, whl¢h activities Include educating students,
conductin8 research under ri8OTOUS and comrnonly accepted research protocols. and constructing
f8cilities under the relevant local or national building and environmental codes.

out academtc research there) are appropriate to the aim5 of UK Frlend5 of Massey.
vil The educational Institutions that UK Friends of Massey support are open to all who meet their
academic standard5, regardless of the student's country of origin, religion, ethr*icity, or gender.
vill The educational institutions that UK Friends of Massey support offer significant 5UPPQrt to
people in poverty who meet their academic standards, including scholarships based on need which
in addition to loans and direct governmental grant5 give people in poverty the opportunity
to attend a5 students, furthermore their research results are normally available to be
perused by. or applied for the benefit of, members of the public regardless of socioetonomlc statu
and they offer public lectures on a regular basis at no charge.

After making appropriate enqulrbes, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has
adequate resources to continue in operatlonal exSstence for the foreseeable future. Trustees

Aeserve5 poIIcy
The trustees conslder that the oble¢tlves of the charlty are best met by keepin8 reserves as low as
P0$5ible by maximislng grants to the Massey Ur*iverslty Foundatlon. In additlon, trustees conslder
the slze of any 8Ifts, thpir purpose. and any forthcoming expenses. Consequently, a formal reservln8
pollcy is not currently reqolred at this time.

The charlty was Sncorporated on 31 july 2018. The principal object of the charlty is to advance
education for the public beneflt by a5515tin8 Massey University in Its educatlon and research
objectives.
Method of appolntment or el•ctlon of Trustees
111 Apart from the first charity trustees (who are appolnted for four years), every trustee must be
appointed for a term of three years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the
charity trustees.

Organliatlonal structure and declslon maklng
The trustees oversee the mana8ement of the charlty. Day to day operatlons are un(lertaken by
Massey University Foundation.

The Trustee5 are responsible for preparing the Trustees, ￿port and the financial statements in
accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accounting Practitel.
The law applicable to charities requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each
financial year which give a true and fair view of the charity and of the incoming donations and

1.1 Basls of accountlng
These accounts have been prepared under the historlcal cost conventlon with items
recognised at ¢ob• or transaction value unless Otherwise stated in the relevant notes to
these account5. The accounts have been prepared In accordance wlth the Statement of
Recommended PractSce.. A¢countin8 and Reporting by Charitie5 preparlng thelr accounts in
accordance with the Fbnanclal ReportlnB Standard appllcable in the UK and Republlc of
Ireland IFRS 1021 Issued on 16 July 2014, the Flnanclal Reporting Standard applleable in the
United Kingdom and Republlc of Ireland IFRS 1021 and wlth the Charities Act 2011.
1.2 Golng Concern
After makln8 appropriate enquirles, the trustets have a reasonable expettatlon that the
charlty has adequate resources to contlnue in operational existence for the foreseeable
future. For this ieason, they contlnue to adopt the 80in8 concern basls In preparln8 the
flnanclal statement5.
2. Accounting Policles
2.1 Income
All income Is recogni5ed by the charity once the charity becomes entitled to the Income, It Is
more likely than not the trustees wlll recelve the Income and when the monetary value can
be measured rellablv.
2.2 Expenditure
Expendlture is recognlsed where it Is more Ilkely than not that there15 a legal or constructive
oblSgat5on commltting the charlty to pay oijt resources and the amount of the obli8ation can
be measured with reasonable certainty.
2.3 Cash at bank and in hand
Cash ai bank and in hand includes cash and short term highly Ilquld Investments with a short
maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or
simllar account.
2.4 Financlal lrtstruments
The charlty only has financlal assets and flnancial liabilities of a klnd that qualify ag basie
flnancial instruments. Basic financial Instruments are recognised at transaction value and
subsequently measured at their settlement value except for bank loans which are
subsequently measured at amortised cost usin8 effective interest method.
