Bloomsbury Pakistan – Social Science Research & Advocacy is a charity with registration no. 1179415 (The Charity Commission for England and Wales). 

Its governing document is its constitution, drawn up and approved by the Trustees in 2018. 

## **Mission** 

The object of the CIO is to promote education in Britain and Pakistan by raising public understanding about pressing social and intellectual challenges in Pakistan by: Public Lectures and panel discussions; Publishing Book reviews and reports on academic research; Dissemination of academic research through the social and mainstream media; Teacher Training Programmes in UK and Pakistan

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

## **Officers (Trustees) and Executive Committee** 

The managing body of the Charity is the Executive Committee, which consists of nine Officers (Trustees) The assets of the charity, including any money standing to the credit of the Society in any bank account and the right to deal with the same, vest in the Trustees. The Officers and the Executive Committee are unpaid and work on a voluntary basis.

## **Asma Jahangir Lecture 2022 – Role of Judiciary in Upholding Democratic Rights and Processes** 

Speaker: _Justice Qazi Faez Isa,_ Chair: _Prof Martin Lau, SOAS,_ Introduction: _Ms Sulema Jahangir._ Justice Qazi Faez Isa is a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Professor Martin Lau is the Professor of South Asian Law at SOAS University of London . Ms Sulema Jahangir is a partner at Dawson Cornwall law firm in London and a board member of AGHS – Asma Jahangir’s Law Firm in Pakistan. She specialises in family law, constitutional law, and human rights cases. on 8 March 2022. More details and video of the lecture.

## **Annual Bacha Khan Lecture 2022:** _**Pashtun Women and Education**_ 

Speakers: _Dr Wiqar Ali Shah_ is the former Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University. He is the author of several books.  His research focuses on Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Khudai Khidmatgars, gender, tribal areas and Afghanistan. He was awarded PhD from the University of Oxford. Discussant: _Dr James Caron_ is an academic at SOAS. His academic research is on Pakhtuns, Pushto literature and history & politics of the region. Chair: _Dr Mukulika Banerjee_ is an academic at LSE. Banerjee was awarded her doctorate from the University of Oxford where she worked on Bacha Khan, published as the book ‘The Pathan Unarmed: Opposition and Memory in the North West Frontier’. Introduction: _Mr Ziauddin Yousafzai_ is from Swat, Pakistan. He is an activist and works on girls’ education. More details and video of the lecture
