Our objectives
1. The relief and assistance of refugees and those seeking asylum in any part of the world who are the victims of war or natural disaster, trouble, or catastrophe in particular by the supply of aid to such persons through providing: grants, items and services to charities and other organisations with similar objectives.
How has this objective been achieved?
Aid trips to Refugee camps
Two deliveries of aid to the Hastings delivery hub for onward delivery to Calais C4C
Two deliveries direct to Calais C4C
Donations to Refugee support groups

Donations to other support groups totalled £7010. This was about £2500 less than the previous year and reflects more difficult environment for fundraising but still a significant amount.

Beneficiaries include Freshwater Project, Legal fees for Rwanda campaign, DEC Earthquake appeal Syria and Turkey, Donate4Refugees, Care4Calais, Medical Aid Palestine, Rohinga refugees in Bangladesh.

Fundraising

Notable grant successes. £14,320 from Derby council to buy 40 bikes with safety equipment and training. £2000 from Coop community fund to buy 20 bikes. Other significant donations from Derby Council £825, Helping Hands £500, DCF £1800, Lush retail £161 and ARC Mechanical £250. Anonymous donations totalled £7280. The Jumblebee auction raised £3336.Gift Aid provided another £1267 Redrow Building £311

£100 a month from one generous regular donor. Dent the Rent has surpassed the rent cost by 143%, ensuring general premises costs are also covered without eating into other donations.

During the year 37 individuals contributed to this cause.

Weigh-in sales were down on the previous year, netting £1,331 income.
Queens Award for Voluntary Services
- Presented in early 2022 by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire. This will increase our credibility as a charity and enhance our fundraising capability

Continued funding from Lifecycle UK for bike kitchen at DRS every Thursday and Saturday. 20 bike repairs every week.

City and Guilds level 1 training provided for two asylum seeker volunteers who gained their certificate and have now moved to othere cities after helping with bike maintenance at DRS.

Regular signposting asylum seekers to other support organisations across Derby, for example the Warm Welcome monthly lunches.

Two internment places funded by Derby University. Two successful applicants worked for several months as assistants to management team.

4. To empower refugees and asylum seekers in Derby by offering English conversation and/or grammar sessions, thereby increasing confidence, integration and employabilitybetween people from diverse backgrounds.
How has this objective been achieved?

To support local refugees with their education, DRS invested the £7k lottery grant on IT and English

Fr Giles , priest at St Annes now opens church for English and music sessions

equipment, a total of £8,210 spent. This equipment will be used for years to come and will enhance the lives of many that visit DRS.

DERBYSHIRE REFUGEE SOLIDARITY FINANCIALS
Financial Year 1[st] September 2021 – 31[st] August 2022
INCOME
Grants: £17,645 was secured in grants during the financial year. £14k from Derby City Council towards bikes along with £825 Neighbourhood Wards fund towards football activities. Helping Hands granted £500 for refugee clothing items and £2,000 was granted from Community Dividend
Donations: Its clear to see how DRS has a place in many hearts when you look at the amount of one-off donations made throughout the year - a total of £18.4k! One couple donated their wedding collection and many others have been super generous.
Dent the Rent has surpassed the rent cost by 125%, ensuring general premises costs are also covered without eating into other donations.
Gift aid of £1.3k from donations was received during the year too.
Warehouse & event sales : £10,807 was taken in warehouse and event sales during the year along with £1,522 weigh in sales.
SPEND
Other charities: DRS gave £9,430 to other charities during the year – Rohingya Refugees, Care4Calais, Muslims in Need, Rwanda Appeal and Freedom from Torture to name a few. £900 was spent on transport costs to deliver aid from the warehouse.
Items for donation: With the Afghanistan crisis, DRS has helped hundreds of refugees that are staying in local hotels by donating clotihng, shoes and essential items. £7,196 was spent in total.
Activities: Activity supplies of £3,757 - to give volunteer refugees the opportunity to learn English, play drums and get involved with sports amongst other activites.
Bikes: Another superb initiative is the bike scheme- supplying refurbished cycles to local refugees along with essential safety equipment. £26,290 was spent this year after receiving £18,070 in donations towards this particular cause.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended DD / MM / YYYY .
- Responsibilities and As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation basis of report of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
