them¢ seleeted was altemative education. The Trust has a panel of three expert judges chaired by tbe Trust cha1rll￿n
to adjudi¢at¢ and approve the awards agaiJ)st d¢fJned ￿lterIa.
The numbeE of noffiinations for th¢ awards were up compared to the last few yeats, 8 reflection of educational
organisations recovering after the upheaval of the Covid palldernÈc. The judging panels reported pleasure in the very
high qualkty of some of the nominations, parti￿11￿rEY in Art & Design. The only award that failed to be delivered was
th¢ PTiSQll Educator of the Year award, beesuse education setvices in prisons continued to be affecied by regulations
intro(luced during the pandernic. The Prisollers Education TNSI with whom we work in partnership foE tbis award is
confident that th¢ preliminary competitive processes in prisons from which the TNst judges select a Ivinrter of the
winner5', will be fim¢tioning next year.
The Educators Fund also supports a Profcssional DeY¢lopm¢nt Gront Fiind. Unlik¢ oth¢r award5 OTganiscd by th¢ Trust,
this is not focused on any particular academic subject Or professional discipline, and it does not require nornination
from any educatiOTJal OTganisation. It is open tt> applications frorn individual educational practitioners, fllll- OT
part-tim¢ cmployees OF freelance, from any sector tsf cdu¢ation and training. The nllmber of suee¢ssful appli¢ation$
varies year in relation to the ovetall budget and the quaIity and 2ppropriaten¢ss of ttppli¢ations. lrt 2022-23 three
applicants were success￿1 its the first trdnche.
With the expaDSiQn of the Tnjst's award5 programme, the organisati0Th21 stW¢llw¢ of the quality a8surnn¢e pro¢ess ha5
been changed. Two sub-groups of judges have been estsblished.- one for the EnviroDrnental Education award requiring
Scientific expertise- and one for the Grants Scheme composed of judges from a variety of backgrnunds. These ttvo
grollps report to the overarching panel of three judges who have extensive knowledge of and experience in qualiry
assurance, evaluation and assessmcnt, who have responsibility for the other awards. The panel calls llpon speeialist
subject advisers whell necessary. Th¢ Jnilitsry awards are judged by thc various military units thernselves witb the
winners reported to the Company.

Colnpany's Ma8a2itie whert it has severnl dedicated pagcs with orti¢les by award winners acCO￿panIed by lively
'aetLOn' photographs. A new tri-fold promotional has also b¢¢n drafted and publish¢d, highLighting the most
ci¢3tiv¢ and inllovative of our award winnets. This has been distributed at Compolly events and more wi(kly to the
educational public.
The Awards Dinner and tbe presentation of the 2022-23 awards will be beld on 21st April 2023 in the Mcrchant
Taylor5, Livery Hall in th¢ City of EA)ndoL Every willtler alld every nominator have acceptcd the invitAtion and
expressed excitement about the event. There will be pre-dinw drinks reception exclwively for tbe winners, th¢ir
nominators. the judges and the tn￿tees.
In pursuit of the Tn￿t'S Charitable Object 3 to promot¢ knowledge about the Trust's work and tts impact, a 'Meet the
Trust, ¢vent is planned for 31 May 2023 at th¢ Guildhall, Londoll. This will bc open to the general public as well as
embers of the Worship￿1 Company of Educators and other liveries. The Chair and the Treasurer will d¢scribe the
chatitable activities of the Tn￿( how its Fund is spent and the impact they have on the benefieiaries. However, the
bighlight will be presentations by three of the award wilmers this year d¢￿ribing their work and what their awards
Jneant for them.
Developtnents ill 21122-2023
The Tru5Vs Strategic Plan 2018-2023 co￿eS to an ¢nd this y¢ar so a priority for th¢ Board was to plan for and complete
a new Straiegic Plat) 2023-2028. A plallDing day was held in S¢pt¢mb¢E 2022 at which th¢ broad parameters main
priorities were agteed. The Cbair ulldertook to complete Part A to include a brief history of the Trnst and an
assessmerti of Ats achievements itt the 2018-2023 period which was approved by the Board. Two otber
Task-and-Fiuish Groups w¢r¢ s¢t up to pr¢par¢ documellts for Part B.. on¢ to consider Financial and Futtd-Raising
Stsat¢gy' the oth¢r to fo¢us Cornmunications Strategy. The Financ¢ arld FUnd-R￿"S1ng Group presented its
proposal5 at th¢ Dec¢rnber 2022 rne¢tiThg, the Collllnutlications Group at the March 2023 ￿eetIllg. Th¢ proce&s is on
track to ¢omplet¢, and the f￿al drafi appioved at the Board n]eetiThg ill May 2023.
During the year, a major decision was taken in Conjunction with the Master and Ward¢ns aThd approved by Cowt, to
trallsfer the ￿]lItary awards to the Company. With the incr¢as¢ in tb¢ number of links established between the Company
and military O￿aniSatIOnS and a concomitant number of m¢dals and shields beit)g awarded olltstanding cducators in
military servA¢e, Tffustees were of the wjanimous vi¢w that it no longer had a role in th¢ quality assuranc¢ process of
selectin8 Witwtng catididates. It was felt tbat it would reflect the de facto $i￿ation for the TNst to band over
responsibilsty for all military awards to the Company and eT)able th¢m to truly reflect the Celebratory ¢lement of the
Memoranda of Understandill8 Wlth mÈlitary establishments. The cost of these awards alld related ￿tIvIty will pass to
tILe Cornpany's budget.
Anoth¢r irnportant developEllent was tbe f]nancial dectsion of tbe Trnst to manage its own eurrent bank account illstead
of the Company Office and Clerk. As the business of the Corllpauy h&$ expanded. th¢ worldoad and pressures on the
Office have increased considerably. It was decided by the Trnst Board, in cortsulration with the Master and Wardens
of the Company. that the financial affairs of the Trt￿l would bo mor¢ effeetivcly managed by a financial administrator
assiststig the Hollorary Tieasurer.
Att appropriatsly qualificd volunt¢¢r was identificd among th¢ Educat0￿,
Liverymen.
For similar reasons of efficiency tirneline55 in relatSOll to the Company Office workload. it was decid¢d to appoint
the Tru5Vs Web-manager aud develop its owll website albeit linked to the Company's wcbsit¢. A TnTStee wlth
professional expertise in this area volunteered for this positio
The current Master has energetically promoted philanthropie giving in her public addresses and has specifically
encouraged donating to the Compan￿& Trust through tlke committee stNcttwe of the Company. She has considerable
experience in charity fund-raising and has contributed idcas to the ongoing disa￿$10￿9 among Trustees about fvtur¢
activities to increase donations fmnL the metnbers and from gucsts at Company ¢v¢nts. This has aIteady paid divid¢nds
in th¢ s¢tting up of a JustGiving facility for dtst￿rs which will mak¢ the adrninistrdtÈon of donations and Gift Aid more
efficient. There has been & furtber incr¢as¢ in donations from members artd all improved completion rate of Gift Aid
forn￿.

During the year the Chair of the Trust wa5 invited to join the pan-city Livery Charity Chairs Group. This holds monthly
seminars about specifie issues of clwity management and an annual eonference of key is6u¢s for Charities. The Group
15 broad-bas¢d, Covering diverse subjeet 8reas and types of beneficiaries, but reveals many common problem5 and
issues among tts m¢mb¢rs, relating to governance, financial decision-making, relations with parent Companies and
public bcnefit. It is proving most usefvl for the Trust to be able to network with other livery ch8rity chails. to leattl from
others. and measure ourselvcs against the best and the standard.
A boost to trnStees' morale th¢ T￿￿t Fllnd came in March with the news of & large legacy from a Foiinding membcr
of the Company. Thc greater part of this will be invested to safeguard and husband rcsouwes to ensure the continuity
of the Trnst for the bellefit of future gellerdtions of educators. The remainder will be used to augment the value of our
cutTent charitable activities.
Public benefit
The tru$Lee5 have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidArtce on public b¢n¢fit published by the
Charity CotDmission in exercising their powers and duties. The charitable activities described this Report directly
benefit educational practitiollers in the maintained sector as well as in chariiies deliverittg edueational serwices, and
indireetly wider audiettees through ejihancing publtc knowledge aJd understgmding of excelleue¢ innovation in the
UK edueaÈion sector.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
FiRaDeial Revlew
The TLUSt continues to appeal for donatlolls 5epaTately from the notification for quarterage. Members of the Company
ar¢ r¢rnind¢d in the re¢DJitn￿t process of the expectstion of charitable activities of livery eompani¢s. The impact of
awards and bursaries on previous winners És bighlighted. The total donated to the T￿st by members of the Company
during 2022-2023 was £105,888, largely eoDsequelltial to a single large donation of £IOO,000. This sum does not
include Gift AIIL or money raised in a Iaffle. The number of ￿eMberS payiug by montbly standing order during tILe year
incr¢3s¢d to 25. The nutllber of ￿e￿berS rnakiDg Single donations was 33.
Investment & Reserves Poltey
The Tn￿tee$, policy for invcstmenl is to maxitThise the total retI￿ll. The Trustees aim to build and then maintain reserves
of £1 million to pres¢rve the continuity of the Trust for the foreseeable fiEture.
The current policy, level of investment and risk appetite is considered to be appropriate by the Trllstees to enable the
Trust to build its reserves and continue with its gTant fullding pmgran]m¢.
This policy was reviewed and agreed by the Trnst¢es during the y¢ar.

The TN5t 15 a charitable in¢oo)orAted orgatiisation which was r¢gistered with the Charity Conllnission on 26 July 2018.
Thc Trust is a suwessor to Th¢ Edllcators, Ttust Fund (charity numbu 1104355). Th¢ assets of the PTed¢c&ssor charity
w¢rc transferred to th¢ Tntst on l April 2020.
Th¢ trustees manag¢ the affaits of th¢ Tnjsi and exercise all the powers of the Tn￿t as set out irt its eonstitution.
The Trust ha5 a minimum of thr¢e and a maximllm of twelve trnstee5. Th¢ Trnst curr¢lltly ha5 nine ttustees including
the Chair. Trnstees are appointed by thc other tru5t¢¢$ for 2 terni of three years.
Trnstee meetitigs are held quarterly. In 2022-3 Zoom fa¢ility ¢ontitkued to be offer¢d foT those tn￿tee$ who were too ill
to attend of whose journeys were disnipted by transport strike5.
Thc Mast¢r, the Upper Warden and the Clerk of the Company are invited to attend TThst meetillgs ex officio along with
thc previou5 Chair of the Trust who was given the title. emeritus custoda5, for her knowledg¢ of tbe history of th¢ Trust.
The Honorary Treasurer and Honordry Secretary also attend tNstee meetings 2$ officers of the Tmst, as will th¢
flllancial administrator in future. Other than thc trust￿$, all other attendees do 50 in a Don-voting capacity.
New trustees are provided with copies of kcy documents whieh explaill the background, policies and procedures of th¢
Trust as part of their induction.
Complia￿ce
The Trust does not use & professional hmdraiser or con]m¢rcial partieipator. Appeals for donations are made ODly to
members of the Worshipful Company of Educators. Th¢ Trustees keep up to date wittL regulations the Cbarity
Commission and ensur¢ that tbc Trust complies with all relevant legislatio￿ No failures in compliance have been noted
and no complaints havc be£n received for the period Covered by this report. The Chairnian and tbe Honorary Tr¢3suttr
