ThE 202Ck21 Fina￿la1 Year IFY) REPORT
FY 2020-21 was a challenging year for all tharibes. including ours, due to the Cowd-19 pandemic which
swept the globe, leading to k)ckdown in Wales from ffiid-march 2m till the Aulumn. and then a slow easing
of reslricbons in the L4te autLimn and the New Year. That reduc￿ our scope to meet up and to do practical
work on si(e, lo rdise funds etc. in the Patk and bLyDnd. We rose to that challeng& did as much a5 we could
remotely.
However, FY2020-21 also stsrteil wtth an amazing set ￿ dis£overies on the Hill. T.G.Williams Llrfs VI￿rkMen
and Clty-P(yNys Archaeological Trust ICPAT) archa8Jlogists (doing lyalching brief wod( in relation io the
main construction coniract lo improve Bailey Hill) disciTrEred many old skeletons. plus rn&Jiewdl floors,
walls, [￿ery and arrowheads. That Was unexpErted, and also a considerable responsibility. which trioger&J

The tripartite partnership IFOBHIFCCIMTCI had lo ensure imm&Jiate protection of the Yinds, just as
T.G.Williatns Ltd We￿ haviNJ io stop W+Drk on srte in order to plan their apprDach (to take Covid-19 into
accounll. FCC and Aurd stsff then worked hard with TGW and Cathy and CPAT to protect the remains, surv8y
the srte more fully. and then arrange the lrfiing of the skekxons etc. lo tske them to Dutham Universty for
expert ana￿Sis. FCC manag&J all that unbl HLF ktndly prcNided a signrficant uplifl in Pfoject funds lo cover
the costs of all that extra archaeological We then ensured there was CCTV coverage of the Hill lo
protect those areas. We were then able to reveal the findings lo Ihe press and public in D￿mber 2020.
In the meantime. Ihe Friends and partners also wotked hard. remotely. on adjustsng and updating the Pat*'s
detsiled design where necessary, and also on TevieNing the'managemenl and Mainlenance Plan 2019-202
set lo inform a propjsed tripartite'management Agreemen¢ between us.
As soon as We￿ able (in the auiumn of 20201 we resumed the Friends, aclNe Y￿rk in the Park - via

Park. STS 3 then enabled us lo do Phase One of planting up the improved Beds on the Inner Bailey Iwfth

Iripartf(e group had pmrnised to the HLF al the outset). That entailed close work the landscape designers
- Harrisons Design Dwelopment IHDDI of Mold - and the landscape Contracto￿ (Wrights).
As an independeni chanty V￿ also: li) intemal ￿liCY and pr￿edUreS. lil) made grdnl applicab'ons
to sustsin our efforts to keep the chanty momng lotward.
Thankfully the pandemic situation has grddualty eas￿ afterthe end of FY 2020-21- enabling us lo gel back
to the Park frequently thereafter. We were then able wilh greater confidence as a charity to seek more funds
and grants. We have also prepared the Park for rts Keep Wales Tidy'Gfeen Flag, Inspection in earfy August
2021. As l Ylnte this note in August 2021, ￿ are hopeful thal the Friends" great elforts Dn site over the last
few months - together with a very big late push by FCC'S staff - wll have been sufficient lo deliver a Park
on Bailey Hill which will impress the judges. We now keenly await installation of the cornmissioned
inlerprelation panels on the Hill. Mso, ￿ anticipate refashion￿ proposals for children's play on the Hill
being unveiled soon.
The charity now has109 Members. and aLso 639 yo1￿[5. of our Facebook Page.
Thank you all very much. and I hope you will all visit the Park in the weeks ahead lo see what a transformation
has been wrought there so far. Thefe is much more to a)me, wrth your supporL
