Trustees Annual Report
This last year has seen tremendous progress in the establishment of our allotment and community orchard site.
In the early months of 2021 Wild Elements finished off the fencing work, laying the track from the car park to the turning area, digging the pond and a drainage ditch and putting in the foundation for the tool shed and composting toilet. The tool shed has been assembled and is in use and we are waiting for the green light from the planning department to build the composting toilet. All this infrastructure and the fruit trees and hedging has been funded by the Social Farms and Gardens ‘Orchards for Wales’ project funded by the Welsh Government.
We had the grass cut, the plots measured out and rotovated and on the weekend of the 7/8[th] August we welcomed the first plotholders to see their plots. All plots are now occupied and most plots have had some preparation done for the coming growing season.
We have held 2 workdays: on the 6[th] November 15 plot holders turned up to help with strimming and mulching in the orchard, fencing off the pond and clearing the ditches. On the 5[th] December 7 plot holders turned up to help with more strimming and ditch clearing.
We have applied for further funding to Mon a Menai to get our water connection and to develop the pond and orchard areas. We are also still waiting for a lease agreement with Gwynedd Council as we are operating on an interim license from Gwynedd Council and a membership agreement with our plot holders at the moment.
Trustees are choosing to remain in role this year – which is in accordance with our governing documents as a Foundation CIO. However we welcome and are actively seeking applications for new Trustees from amongst plot holders or community orchard volunteers. Trustees can be appointed at any time of year by the existing Trustees.
