Trustees Report FY 2024/25
WE RUN EALING (WRE) is the charitable arm of the award-winning Ealing Half Marathon. We deliver community-focused running initiatives, many of which are free and open to people of all abilities.
We are a community of local people with a desire to make Ealing a better place to live, a coalition of the willing bringing together organisations in and around Ealing to work together.
We aspire to be the UK’s most active running community.

Summary of activity (Apr 24 – March 25)
-
Our partnership with Blended Trails continued with regular pop-up trail running and walking courses developed and posted on the WRE website together with 6 guided social runs attracting over 230 runners, a large proportion of whom were female to explore the borough. Additionally, 2 ‘Street Art’ runs were organised in Acton to showcase the fantastic selection of murals in the neighbourhood.
-
A 2[nd] Food Bank Run, in partnership with Good Gym took place as well as a running shoe collection which was arranged at local park runs in partnership with Jog On. On the day over 300 nearly new and used trainers were collected, all of which were either reused or recycled.
-
WRE collaborated with Westside Runnas to host the first ever Run Grateful event in Ealing. Runners and walkers from Ealing and beyond met at Acton Park to experience the power of the grateful mile. A one-mile loop is marked and open for 30 minutes for anyone to run or walk as many miles as they wish. Each participant is encouraged to take a moment before their run or walk to focus on something they are grateful for.
-
4 Training runs were organised and led by WRE for the Ealing Half Marathon (EHM) covering different parts of the course. The runs attracted over 150 runners.
-
Two new additions to the EHM weekend were added by WRE:
-
Friday nights lights – A social run through the streets of Ealing
-
Ealing Feeling 5k - A shorter distance for those not able or wanting to run the half marathon
-
The event attracted 72 attendees, with 12 raffle prizes sourced from local businesses and £1055 raised to support the charity.
-
An entirely sold-out auditorium at The Ealing Project enjoyed a screening of 'Younger' followed by a Q&A panel. The film follows a group of female athletes in their 60s, 70s and 80s who are still competing as masters athletes. The women are extraordinary athletes who demonstrate how to age healthily and with a true sense of fun and camaraderie. The Q&A panel discussion that followed featured co-directors Danielle and Alex, Paul Farmer from Age UK and WE RUN EALING's Tom Kerry. The audience enjoyed hearing insights from the filmmakers as well as the great work that both charities Age UK and WE RUN EALING to keep people moving as they get older.
-
The 2[nd] running of the Queen of the Suburbs Ultra took place in March 25 and attracted 258 runners covering either 25k or 50K and involving 55 volunteers from the local community both on the day and in the build up to the event.
-
In support of QoTS, 4 training runs were organized gradually increasing in distance and proved very popular not only with QoTS entrants but also local runners who were marathon training.
-
The route started in Boston Manor Park and took in the sights of Ealing, such as Horsenden Hill, the Northala Fields mounds, Hanwell Viaduct and the Grand Union Canal, finishing at Dickens Yard in Central Ealing.
-
Local organisations and businesses also supported the event by providing locations for checkpoint and aid stations, plus start and finish venues. Any leftover food and drink from the aid stations and finish was donated to Ealing Food Bank.
-
Feedback from the event has been very positive and of the 55 volunteers supporting the event 100% said they would volunteer again.
