## **PINEWOOD TRUST TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31[ST] MARCH 2022**

The Pinewood Trust is an incorporated charitable organisation established in 2018 as a legacy to the collaborative network of organisations that had developed in the city of Hull and East Riding. We have continued to develop the foundations of the charity and ensured that we had appropriate governance, infrastructure and strategic planning to take steps towards the delivery of the aims and objectives of our charity. This direction has enabled us to build partnerships with schools, youth and community groups, and corporate organisations.

The global pandemic of Coronavirus (Covid-19) has continued to impact slow the progress of our initial plans, but we adapted our processes and procedures to enable groups to access our site in a safe and approved way.

These activities have ranged from youth and community groups conducting social action projects, which have helped to promote positive relationships between young people across the city and helping to develop a sense of purpose within the site, as well as providing a safe space for many to be ‘outdoors’ following a long period of lock down. Our primary focus has been to give many young people the new experience of being in the outdoors and travelling away from urban areas. The impact of Covid-19 has created greater challenges for young people, families, and communities, and therefore our activities have provided respite and ‘escapism’, promoting positive wellbeing for many who are suffering from isolation. The site and outdoor space has provided an environment where people have been able to come together and feel comfortable and confident to be around others again.

In September, Pinewood became the site of the BBC Children in Need DIY SOS Big Build. This process was in collaboration with St. Michael’s Youth Project in Hull and entailed a 10-day build resulting in a 3 storey adventure playground, 450 metre bike track, bird watching tower, pizza oven and fully kitted out kitchen and toilet and shower facilities building. This development of the site has provided us with the opportunity to invite more people to use the site of all ages and abilities and enabled those who are anxious being in the outdoors to have a steppingstone to outdoor activities with access to quality facilities.

## **Objectives and activities**

The Pinewood Trust Trustees review the aims, objectives and activities of the charity each year and ensure that they remain focused on its stated purposes. The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning its future activities.

## **Purposes and aims**

The Pinewood Trust is a proactive charity with land (primary activity delivery site) based in Burshill, Brandesburton, near Beverley. We provide a safe environment and activities to encourage young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds; to get out of the city and enjoy the countryside, a peaceful place where older people can come together for days out; combating isolation and loneliness and a calming, green sanctuary offering respite to those affected with mental illness. We aim to provide the opportunity for all people to access the outdoors in a way that is right for them.

## **Financial review**

The charity receives income from grants and donations. During 2021 - 2022 the income amounted to 224.98. Direct charitable expenditure and other indirect expenditure amounted to £561.90. These values reflect the circumstances of Covid-19 and the limitations of our work during/and the impact of the Pandemic, with the reduction in activity delivery, our priority shifted to site clearance, maintenance, and management. Our aim is for further income generation for the viability and sustainability of our organisation and support of our aims and purpose.
