||ln accordance with the objects of the Charity, the VCC underwrote the<br>commissioning of a new viola concerto by CASSANDRA MILLER which<br>received its world premiere in Brussels (March 2023, Brussels<br>Philharmonic Orchestra) and subsequent performance in Edinburgh (May<br>2023, Scottish Chamber Orchestra). Co-commissioned by BBC Radio 3,<br>Brussels Philharmonic, National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), and<br>Scottish Chamber Orchestra, supported by The Viola Commissioning<br>Circle, this important new work from a female composer has attracted<br>further upcoming performances in Sydney, Barcelona and Ottawa in<br>future seasons.<br>In accordance with the objects of the Charity, the VCC underwrote the<br>commissioning of a new viola concerto by RYAN WIGGLESWORTH<br>which will receive its world premiere in summer 2025. Co-commissioners<br>are currently being assembled for this seminal work.<br>Past underwritten viola concerto from ANDERS HILLBORG received<br>further performances in Stockholm (March 2023, Stockholm Radio<br>Orchestra), Basel (April 2023, Basel Symphony Orchestra), Frankfurt<br>(May 2023, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra), and Dresden (June<br>2023, Dresden Philharmonic).<br>The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity<br>Commission on public benefit.|

|**Summary of the main**<br>**achievements of the charity**<br>**during the year**|The world premiere of the Cassandra Miller Viola Concerto given by<br>Lawrence Power and the Brussels Philharmonic achieved critical acclaim<br>particularly in The New Yorker (critic Alex Ross). The Hillborg Viola<br>Concerto, previously underwritten by the VCC and having received its<br>world premiere in Liverpool in October 2021, went on to further<br>performances in the 22/23 Season.<br>The Lockdown Commissions continue to inspire young viola players<br>globally, with new performances of the works. The ninth work<br>(commissioned by the VCC from Olly Mustonen) was given a live world<br>premiere as part of the Fathom performance at Southbank Centre in<br>December 2022.|
