To promote improve, develop, maintain, and advance education and the arts for the public benefit, in particular through the promotion, support and encouragement of the art of music and all other art forms and specifically, but not exclusively, by commissioning or supporting the commissioning of musical works for the viola with or without other **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its** instruments or voices which in connection therewith may include public performances, masterclasses, coaching, open **governing document** rehearsals, workshops, talks and lectures, outreach programmes, publication of scores and parts and recordings. ln accordance with these objects the VCC underwrote the commissioning **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include** of a new viola concerto by ANDERS HILLBORG which received its world premiere in Liverpool (October 2021, Royal Liverpool

Philharmonic Orchestra) and subsequent performances in later seasons. Commissioned by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with co-commissioners Hessicherrundfunk; NTR Zaterdag Matinee NPO Radio 4's concert series in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, Sinfonieorchester Basel, and Aspen Music Festival, it was supported by The Viola Commissioning Circle to great acclaim.

Further work to complete the ten Lockdown Commissions, which commenced in 2020, included the eighth commission by Héloïse Werner, and ninth commission by Olli Mustonen. Lockdown Commission #8 'mixed phrases' by Héloïse Werner was filmed at The Asylum, Peckham and was released on Instagram and YouTube on 31 July 2021.

## **THE VIOLA COMMISSIONING CIRCLE**
st I report on the accounts of The Viola Commissioning Circle for the year ended 31 July 2022.
## **0Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
## It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of examiner’s statement**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
